Purchase "I Want Jesus to Walk With Me" from the album "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing: American Folk Hymns and Spirituals":

Alex Boyé joins The Tabernacle Choir in a music video capturing the emotionally moving "I Want Jesus to Walk with Me." Singing from the shores of Cape Coast, Ghana where slaves were sent from Africa to America, Boyé, a member of the Choir, sings what he calls "one of his favorite pieces of music," that reflects the longing, yearning, and hope to find solace and strength with Jesus.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (February 10, Ash Wednesday), I attended an Ash Wednesday community service at a local Lutheran Church. We sang this as the Opening Hymn. It is #325 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

The video has extra meaning for me- it is shot at a slave castle on the Gold Coast of Ghana, which I had the chance to visit two summers ago. Such a powerful place, and a fitting backdrop for this piece. Thank you, Choir and Mr. Boye.

You don't need to be Christian to enjoy this song. Alex sings it so beautifully.

I will never forget this song. It has been so amazing to see the audience reactions to Alex and the Choir on tour in different places across the United States. He can make a big basketball arena feel like a small chapel.

brings me to tears at the pain of it all. And then there was Amazing Grace. The world needs both of these compositions

Mum, me and my little brother became members of the church in 1974, and my mum was born Jewish... the Bishop who married me and my husband... by coincidence... or maybe it was my ancestors that organised it from beyond the grave... was also likewise born Jewish... proud of my roots... so happy to be a member of this church... and a Mormon... a people set apart... enjoy kwaiigirl9991

The song is so powerful and especially the clip, the castle is the place of troubled souls. This is a prayer for those who walked on that piece of land. Thank you for sharing this.
