I was thrilled to find this video because I only play offline for the most part. I have met the nastiest, rudest, loot stealing people online and prefer simply not to deal with it at all. For me the biggest advantge is I can take the time to enjpy even the ambiance and music of the game.

After months of grinding, in a week i found 2 sur and a ber, and an eth thresher for my first 317&ed infinity, and my nova sorc is cleaning chaos in an heartbeat.

I came back to D2 after the announcement of D2R back in early 2021. I played D2L offline to get my bearings and relearn the game, and during that time I learned a ton of stuff about stat priority, item generation, map reading and how the game mechanics interact that I would have otherwise skipped in online play.
Fast forward to D2R launch (and S1 launch thereafter) and I was able to quickly and efficiently get my character leveled, progressed through the story, and farming to build wealth online. I 100% attribute the success I had during both launches to the time I spent learning how the game actually worked in single player and would recommend that any new player start there; with the help of the information available in content like this. There is no substitute for experience.

One of the best things about offline play is that you can make your own rules... Using only what you find can be a fun way to play, but you can also research online what items are worth and "trade" stuff that you find with imaginary players for runes and such by just using hero editor to trade say a High Rune out for a Shako or something like that, just like you would trade for one online. It may technically be "cheating", but its a work-around for people who don't have the patience or the time to spend 500 hours finding a specific item or rune to be able to progress their character a bit further.

I’ve never played D2 with anybody, and I’ve played since launch. Off and on of course, with some really long stints of on. To say I was excited for D2R is an understatement, and I haven’t been let down. I love the graphics and auto gold pickup. I started over completely for D2R, but I do miss GoMule and the Flavie report to keep track of how many of everything you have and grail progress. They’ve made a few changes but overall have left much of the experience the same which is a relief to me. My luck with drops sucks compared to my luck of the old days, but I’m still enjoying the hell out of it.

I've been an SSF player on D2 for a long time. Used to play Single Player when it first came out. Got my first char to 90 before I got on BNET to play so I wasn't a total noob. It was a very enjoyable experience. I too would love LAN to be back. I would Love to play with my 2 kids over LAN.

I miss the option to play LAN as well! It was mine and my friends' favorite activity back in the day. It was the reason I needed two large desks to hold the very heavy CRT monitors of 4 PC's! This was before laptops with gaming capability were around, circa 2001-2002. And we didn't just play Diablo 2 on LAN. We played all sorts of games, such as Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Unreal Tournament GOTY, Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, Counter-Strike etc. and our favorite alternative to Diablo 2 - Dungeon Siege! That was a great clone (kinda).
Those weekends were the best! Having my friends over, my parents trying to feed us fruit to stop us going out for unhealthy snacks. 😂Aah such good memories.

Thank you for this very informative video on offline single player play. I am relatively new to D2R. I have played through the game twice with online ladder gameplay. I am looking forward to starting my first offline character thanks to all the cool advantages that you have pointed out in this video. GG and keep up the good work!

People's reliance on rushing I think does detract from a huge aspect of the game. On that point I very much agree. Its also the reason why every time I start a new season I always insist on "walking" my first playthrough on a new character and just enjoy the experience of naturally progressing through the acts. After I successfully get my first character to Hell difficulty the natural way after that I have no problem rushing future characters because at that point I'm just experimenting with builds, classes and equipment. That fresh league start, first slow playthrough of the acts on a fresh character though is usually the most fun part of the entire game to me. I generally enjoy that more than the end game grinding and maxing out all my gear.

Personally for me the only thing that sucks is no trading but I feel better knowing everything I have is solo self found, plus unlimited mules is a big plus for me because I like to holy grail.
I like that Blizzard North encouraged both ways of playing with it’s own perks to each.

Great video man.😊 I have permanently switched from d2r Pc online to offlne SP. I am very happy and doing holy grail. No limit in chars, unlimited respec command on Pc only and mods. Only thing we have to do backups on d2r saved folder for chars.
