I’m gonna watch this movie not for the romance any more, but for the sole purpose of Cyrano’s slam poetry.

What's with the trend of completly skewing the content of original works, and denaturing what was actually meant to be shown to an audience the same way a movie is nowadays in a couple of entertaining hours ? ... All they had to do was to adapt it to the screen like France did with a masterpiece by Jean Paul Rappeneau
(watch it with subtitles., at least you'll have the melody of french verses and the genius of Gérard Depardieu in one of his greatest roles!)

Even perfectly translating a play is altering it, especially if it was composed in verses.... But completly changing the actual content of an already existing works and still keeping its title because it somehow rings a bell in the slightly ignorant audience's mind is criminally cynical.,

That's how people who are too lazy to read are tricked into thinking they know what some classic novels are, and perpetuate wrong assomptions, false ideas about it, or worse :
They Reduce it to some Disney-like /Hollywoodian petty, vapid and simplistic concepts wich are only a fraction of what was supposed to be the essence of the original work

No efforts made here :The word '' romantic '' didn't even exist when Cyrano lived...

They could simply use the play and some much more faithful movies about it as a source of inspiration and entirely change the time, place, characters involved WITHOUT illegitimately slapping a famous name on it as a way to usurpate its glory ...

It's pretty annoying to think that the masses will assume This thing is Cyrano de Bergerac, as imagined by Edmond Rostand ...

I gave up on this film after 20 minutes, it was utterly boring.

Also the premise that a person the size of Dinklage could be a master swordsman is as ridiculous as him being an NBA player (and he can’t sing either).

The diversity for that time in France, especially for an elite guardsman is likewise ridiculous.

Go watch the Depardieu version instead.

Update: Swordfighting is about reach in the same way that basketball is about height, but as usual the virtue signalling politically correct brigade are here to insist that a dwarf can be a master swordsman.

They’re welcome to provide a real world example- say from the Olympics, it shouldn’t be difficult, right guys?
