I drove the RWD EV6 and was very impressed by the overall package, especially how well built the car was. It was slow, but that was expected. I then drove the AWD Ioniq 5 and was impressed by how quick it was. I assume the AWD EV6 is equally impressive.

The Ev6 is a game changer. I'm waiting on the full performance GT arriving the end of the year.

you forgot to mention the ev6 is potentially 14k cheaper.
In the old days, that would have been the only relevant argument

The Koreans seem to be significantly ahead of the Japanese in electrification. I don't think they have that much factory capacity for the EV6/Ionic models, and probably the USA will only get 10K or 20K of these, which will easily sell out. Good to see some competition for Tesla. As these are just the first ones from Hyundai group, I expect the next generation to be significantly better. They are already competent, so the next round will give Tesla a real battle.

Really good review and summary.
Also nice to see John Cusack with painted nails reviewing cars now

Since Tesla added to automatic heated seat function, I've never needed to turn it on or off manually. I'm astonnished how well it works.

Also for those that don't want auto, with the latest update you can permanently put the heated seats next to the temp

I've heard a few people shorter than me say there's no headroom in the EV6, I test drove one, with the sunroof, and it was fine for me at 6'2. I ordered the one without the sunroof though...

When it comes to driving, the EV6 feels far more stable. I driven both a Panmera and a Taycan (no 911) I would say the EV6 is far closer with a planted feel at highway speeds where as the Y felt semi-unstable at higher speeds. Also, the Y I test drove already had issues such as door rattles, and storage bin doors that wouldn't work. KIA is (now) known for decent build quality, and also way better warranty. Also in real world driving, the EV6 seems to be achieving its range estimates (however barely) while the Model Y is way off, typically meeting the EV6. I do believe its on the small size though, and is more wagon that SUV or even CUV, but I think the same can be said about the Y. It doesn't have that white knuckle acceleration, but I didn't miss it when testing it, and its far more user friendly and practical. I also looked at a 700 mile drive on better route planner, and the EV6 only stops twice for charging, while the Model Y had me stopping over 5 times. The charge times were way different, but that's a lot of stops, almost as much as a Hummer (7 if I recall). I'd choose the EV6 first.

I have the house wired to connect to the car in the event of a power cut. I can switch over in five minutes or less and run the basic house needs for up to a week.

As a Tesla model 3 owner that drives a lot, I’m very interested in the alternatives. It’s GREAT to hear that someone has made a more comfortable competitor. However, once you’re used to the acceleration and autopilot on the Tesla that’s hard to give up. How does the Kia/Hyundai lane keep assist/adaptive cruise control compare to Tesla? What about the acceleration? Also, how do safety features compare? It’s really good to know that Tesla was given such a high rating. The interior does look like Kia has put a lot of thought into it, but I’m not convinced that a Kia will hold its value nearly as well as a Tesla. I hope I’m wrong, I wish them success!

One area where all these non Tesla EVs fail big is sentry mode. People need 24/7 video recording to catch car break-ins, key scratchers, accidents. If EV6 had this i would be completely sold.

EV6 is nice, but here in South Florida I've gone to several Kia Dealerships and no one has any. While Tesla is making about 60, 000 Model Y's per month BEFORE opening Giga Texas AND Giga Berlin, which should DOUBLE Model Y production by the end of the year. Kia is only making about 6, 000 EV6 per month. They have the same issue with the Ioniq 5, the Kona Electric, the Kia Niro, pretty much all their electric cars, so while it may be a "compelling alternative" if you can't get one, what's the point? At least with Tesla you can order a car and even though you have to wait 6 months you actually get it. At Kia, they won't even let me place an order. All they do is try to get me to buy a Gas Powered vehicle, of which I have ZERO interest.

Interesting stuff. EV6 for me. One thing I've noticed that nobody's mentioning the Tesla turning circle or turning radius. It's really bad. We have mini roundabouts in the UK and a Tesla won't get round them without having to back up and do a three point turn or five point turn. I've seen it and the annoyed other drivers waiting for the Tesla to get round these mini roundabouts.

I have the EV6 and love it except for the lack of head space due to the sunroof. Wish I would have went with the model Y for that reason alone.

Both very nice cars. I'm also 6ft tall and agree that the EV6 cabin feels cramped (a problem that I don't have in my ID3 which has plenty of headroom). But at the moment, neither of these are enticing me away from my ID3 Family Edition which cost less than half the price of these cars, has a full panoramic roof, reasonably good performance and a real world range of 180-250 miles (depending of conditions).

If i'm paying twice the price then I will only switch to a Model Y once they are using the next generation of battery tech and WLTP range is in excess of 400 miles. And as the EV6 feels too cramped I will wait for the EV7 and if that has improved headroom, a panoramic roof and upgraded battery tech with a 400+ miles range then i'm in. Otherwise i'm sticking with my ID3. My feeling is that that Tesla will get there first.

I’m 6 feet tall and I have a Ev6 and I don’t feel that way 🤔 it’s so much space inside and the back seats too. Also I charge level 1 at night where I live and I get 6 to 8 miles an hour, not 2

No optional ‘sunroof’ on a $60, 000 car?
