I wouldn’t bring children into a world this way given the choice again this planet has become a different place than 12 years ago when life was a little more stable.

I placed an extremely relevant comment here, and our big tech overlords deleted it.

Oh so sad, pollution and wars (and disease) will go down and the quality of life will go up. On the other hand, I-phone sales might drop a bit - so sad!

None of these things are a problem. Less people the better. Humans will likely be around for another couple million years based on average time to extinction for primate species. We have to get on a sustainable population model.

This aged pretty badly. Turns out absolutely no one wants uneducated poor people coming in to "bolster the population" - having uneducated people come in illegally simply adds to any potential demographic issues.

I'm still getting bullied right here on YouTube every time I suggest I think this might be true. It's not a good time for Americans to be aware.

So the countries that can provide jobs, housing and food for their people will lose population and the countries that cannot currently provide jobs, housing or food for their current populations will have huge population increases, making this problem worse. That is not good news and sets the world up for a lot of problems.

The "opening the borders and competing for immigrants" that the video discussed assumes that the developed countries that have a declining population are OK with being culturally, linguistically and possibly racially overwhelmed by massive immigration from the areas with unsustainable growth like the Sub-Sahara Africa area mentioned in the video. Japan is facing a dramatically declining population right now and they have not opened up their borders except to the Japanese diaspora living in other countries like Brazil, etc. because they don't want to lose their culture and language, and I don't see many other countries willing to do that either.

The US has somewhat of an advantage in that we are already a fairly non-homogenous nation so no one really looks "out of place" when they immigrate here, not like (example) a Sub-Saharan Black African would stick out in Iceland. We also can afford to allow immigration at a slow enough pace that those who do immigrate here can assimilate into the overall American mindset and culture. But this is a real mess and we may see more situations like we see in some small Italian towns where there are a lot of vacant houses because the population is not replacing themselves and many of the younger people leave to bigger cities for jobs and more opportunities. Instead of towns with this problem we could see entire nations with this problem.

Conditions to bring new life into this world are not ideal at this precise moment and there is no shortage of humans beings. No other mammal reproduce at the fast rates humans do. The increase in population went from 1B to 8B in just about 100 years. This planet won’t be able to keep up with so many humans and their needs for shelter and food. We also need to think about the species we share the planet with.

There was a smaller proportion of taxpayers in the 1960s, when women had 3 or more babies and stayed home to look after them. Then in the 1970s, women stopped giving birth to dependents and became worker/taxpayers themselves. That was a massive increase in the proportion of worker/taxpayers in the population, which was quite abnormal.
