I couldn't recommend this video enough to every player that want to get better and optimize their ship management. Can't wait too see the next videos of this series. I'll definitely use and share that video often when teaching less experienced player. Straight to the point, very clear & complete explanation. Keep up the great work my man, respect

Thank you so much!
I've been thinking a lot about this recently for non-combat situations and this translates almost perfectly for those situations if you replace cannons with sails.
Great video, can't wait for the in-depth videos.

I was never heavy on battle in general, I tend to avoid it as much as possible, though recently I've started dwelving into it as it's sort of a must in SoT. This guide gave me some of much needed information to better orientate myself and my crew, and I thank you a lot for that. :D I'll be looking forward for the in depth videos!

At around 2:45 you explain that the bilge and MC never have to guard, but in one specific situation (which isn't that rare in a Galleon vs Galleon fight) the MC actually has to guard with th helm. That is the case when the bilge needs the flex to help with buckets and the opposing team sends a boarder. In this case the flex and bilge can't stop bucketing and because of that the MC has to help the helm with guarding since the helm would be alone with guarding otherwise.

I absolutely love this guide, and is now the system I use on all my ships for when we enter combat. However, there's only one question that remains unclear to me.

From what I got, the Flex is usually the first/main one to go board the enemy ship, but assuming they need a second boarder, who is sent next in the event the flex needs backup? I imagine the bilge or main cannon is next, but I'm not entirely sure. Note that this question mainly applies to the Galleon, but I can adjust accordingly to the Brigantine (and sloop is obvious).

I played with a pretty serious crew awhile back, they'd often start fights with volley fire, putting 3-4 holes in at once, as opposed to 1-2 at a time. It's a strategy you can really only employ if you have control of this situation, but it seemed very effective.

Roles when I play with friends:

Me: Helm, Flex, Bilge, and Cannon

Everyone else: either dead or in the water from falling off or missing boards

I need to send this to my crew since the three of them all think they need to be a hero and all cannon out to sea at every chance they have, leaving me on board soloing a gally lmao

Great video. I think a video on combat sails management, especially for brig and gally would be great too!
