Thank you, Saeng. I appreciate your detailed explanation of the original name "jeow som" and its origins. It's frustrating how Lao contributions, like thum mak hoong and laab, are often credited to Thailand or Cambodia instead. No hate to our neighbor countries 😊

I'm just so THAI-erd of hearing it!

I agree 100% don't change the name, use their proper names to show appreciation to the culture.

Thank you for addressing this!!! All the crack this and crack that is so ignorant and I cringe every time I hear those references. Thank you!!

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. I know many who don't have a problem with others nicknaming or renaming things because for them personally there is no harm.

If I am force to learn chartootery board, or derves, and foh gwah then people can learn how to say and spell banh mi, pho, banh xeo, and hu tieu

I never saw it from your angle but completely get it. Until they learn it by heart, let’s keep the momentum going- Jeow Som!

People try to steal it and call it their own by giving it a generic name but when you ask what their natives of their land call it they don’t know cuz it’s not from their country or they people. It’s a Lao sauce we call Jeow Som as All Lao people know but they don’t know so they make up names for it and say they we have it too😂 Give us some respect.

I'm Dominican puerto rican & I've only heard it called Jeow so I guess that's a good sign the culture is changing for the better

Using proper name also shows that the culture hold higher regard for themselves and expects others to have a sense of respect. Love it

I’m assuming this is some viral Tik tok cooking thing, I haven’t seen it myself, so seeing your videos first will remind me of it’s important heritage and IF it does now pop up on my feed, I hopefully can educate someone else like you did me :)

Still calling it crack sauce with my family lol

I've been pronouncing it wrong this whole time 😂 TBH I've never heard anyone around me call it crack sauce. It must be a demographic thing or whoever is selling it, renamed it to make it seem more interesting.

It’s not a hard word to say. If people can say Worcestershire sauce, then they can say Jeow som

As long as you don’t expect me to have an accent when I say the words, we are all good Homie

Calling it crack is an honor. It means people like it and get addicted.
