MACI Artho Instrument Overview by Dr. Michael Kuhn

One of the latest advancements in sports medicine involves an all-arthroscopic technique for matrix-induced autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI), developed by Dr. Michael Kuhn, a sports medicine surgeon at Middlesex Orthopedic & Spine Associates.

This procedure addresses cartilage damage in the knee, a condition that can progress if left untreated. Unlike traditional open surgeries, Dr. Kuhn's minimally invasive approach facilitates earlier range of motion, reduces post-operative complications such as pain and stiffness, and leads to improved clinical outcomes.

Further, Dr. Kuhn has contributed to the research and development of new surgical tools (MACI Arthro), which received FDA approval in August 2024. This approval expands the availability of the procedure to patients nationwide, benefiting individuals aged 18 to 55 with cartilage injuries in the knee.
