"my need to make the best of things and your need to be responsible, we could lose 10 years just being polite" is the most underrated line in this whole movie

The fact that she is the one who comforts him by reassuring he will remain friends with her son.... just shows what a generous and decent person she is.

The beauty of this scene is it took her breaking up with him to make him realize he loved her.

Why dont they make beautiful movies like this anymore? I just want to go back to the 90's.

Infatuation is not enough. Friendship is not enough. You need the whole package. You need a true, deep commitment from both sides, rooted in real love. And you need to have the same value system. What a wonderful, balanced acting performance and what a wonderful, balanced script.
Go, girl!!! Stay true to your standards!!!

Such good scenes. They break your heart watching it. Jerry wouldn't show his feelings, and Dorothy stood her ground even though her heart was broken in two. All he did was stare.

Tom gives equally fantastic performance when he is jumping off a building and sitting on a back porch breaking up with a girl. What an actor. 🥹

As a kid I could never understand why people would break up like this. Just stay together! It was that simple! Now as an adult I find it’s actually very easy for people to break up like this and hard to stay together.

Amazing that Cruise had two of the top four highest grossing movies in the US in 1996, this and Mission Impossible. Dude can crush it in so many types of roles.

That look she gives him after Ray jumps in his arms is heartbreaking and sweet at the same time

Renee Z is so believable here, such an authentic generous actor, she owns this role

Lots of known actress audition for this movie but so glad they went to an relatively unknown Renee Z. Her performance sold her as a A list actress.

5:48 You can see he does love her in the way he watches her walk away. He looks like "Don't go."

For some reason when this movie came out in my twenties, I didn’t understand this scene. Now, in my forties, I understand completely.

" he loves my kid, and he sure does like me alot and I can't live like that That's not how I'm built .. 💔" WOW

What’s fascinating about this is that Jerry is trying to rebuild himself with the same tools from life that got him to exactly where he never wanted to be. It translates into his personal life with someone who is trying to love him. He speaks about personal connection, but continues to stretch himself thin. Her breaking up with him after that particular phone call was exactly what he needed to finally start to get it.

"On the surface, everything looks fine. I've got this great guy. And he loves my kid, and he sure does like me a lot." Great line of summarizing their relationship at this point. He loves the kid, but is only committed to liking her and not truly love her.

The sound track of this movie is making it more beautiful, played at the perfect timing with the perfect choice of song... every single time...
