This panel offers new historical perspectives exploring the development of anarcha-feminism in the United States. We explore how women and LGBTQ radicals critiqued male dominance, linked patriarchy to other forms of hierarchy and oppression, and developed intersectional anarcha-feminism in the twentieth century.
• Sonia Hernández will present on Reynalda Gonzalez Parra & Caritina Piña, two Mexican anarcha-feminists of the early twentieth century.
• Montse Feu will discuss how antifascist women fought against the Spanish Civil War and Francisco Franco’s dictatorship with activism, print protest, and solidarity.
• Spencer Beswick will explore the evolution of anarcha-feminism within Love and Rage in the late twentieth century, highlighting their support of autonomous women’s infrastructure, militant defense of abortion, queer liberation, and interventions into debates surrounding pornography.

Land acknowledgement for the 2021 Boston Anarchist Bookfair:

The 2021 Boston Anarchist Bookfair takes place in so-called Cambridge, Massachusetts. This city sits on the ancestral and unceded homelands of the Massachusett people, whose name this state has appropriated. Located near the Charles River, this place has long served as a site of meeting, exchange, and diplomacy among nations, with thousands of Indigenous people living in greater Boston and tens of thousands in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We pay respect to the Massachusett elders past and present, and acknowledge the truth of violence perpetrated in the name of the United States. Although reading this statement does not qualify as material support for the struggles of Indigenous peoples, we encourage everyone joining us today to research the land on which they sit, and also to recognize that land acknowledgements do not exist in a past tense, as colonialism is an ongoing process, one which we invite everyone attending this year’s book fair to join us in fighting.
