Dell PowerEdge R430 - This will be the third video of our PowerEdge R430 video series. Today, we will be covering the different storage options for the R430 server as well as support drive speeds and capacities. We will also show you how to install your drives as well as test them with Dell Diagnostics and HD Sentinel. This video series includes:

Let's get rolling. The Dell PowerEdge R430 supports three types of drives: Serial-Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial ATA (SATA), and Solid-State Drives (SSD). SAS drives have supported speed options of 7.2K, 10K and 15K RPM. SATA drives have only one speed option: 7.2K RPM. SSDs can run at speeds of 3GB/s, 6GB/s, or 12GB/s. There are small form factor (SFF) and large form factor (LFF) chassis options for the R430. If you want to use 2.5” drives with a LFF chassis, you will need to utilize a 2.5” to 3.5” drive converter. For 2.5” drives, we’ve been able to install drives with capacities of 2.4TB for SAS, 2TB for SATA, and 7.68TB for SSDs. For 3.5” drives, we’ve been able to install capacities of 18TB for SAS, 16TB for SATA, and 7.68 for SSDs. SSDs for 3.5” are technically just a 2.5” SSD drive in a converter. If you have had higher drive capacities work with your R430, share your findings in the comments below. We are interested to hear what others have found.

I bought a second hand r430 and this is my first server so videos like this really helps (especially ur series!), I just have a question about resetting it. I want to reset it to factory settings so that I have a clean slate to work on, my only worry is that this server already has an enterprise iDRAC license. If I reset the server to factory settings, would I lose that enterprise license? And a video about resetting an r430 server to factory settings would be really helpful. Hopefully u see this, thanks in advance.
