LEGO Star Wars 40558 CLONE COMMAND STATION Review! (2022)

LEGO Star Wars Minifigure Packs are here (hopefully to stay) and this is my brutally honest review of the 40558 Clone Command Station (basically an Episode 2 Clone Trooper Battle Pack). The inclusion of the Clone Commander from the UCS Republic Gunship is nothing but frustrating and while 2 regular Clone Troopers is amazing, the inaccurate armor is also frustrating. I go a bit hard in this review, sorry. Not sorry.,

I really hope we keep getting Minifig Packs in the future.
Like if the Clone Commander was only in this and the Gunship had an actual pilot there’s no problem here. Unfortunately we don’t live in that universe.

Don’t let Ryan’s complaints blind you this is a really great start at episode 2 sets with a great way to get these figs

Honestly, I feel like this is (almost) a best-case scenario. LEGO seems to not like making a variety of figures, and if having the AotC, Clone Wars, and RotS clones being pretty much the same means we get more clone wars-era sets I'm fine with it. However, if LEGO doesn't release more sets with clones in the next couple years, that invalidates my points. Also LEGO designers/spokespeople really should think more before they say things. Maybe they do truly think that they never compromise their product, all anyone remembers is a yellow clone, etc. in which case they really should pay more attention to their adult/teen market. I've always been under the impression that they make up a lot of LEGO Star Wars buyers, maybe not though.

The clone commander double as a pilot for the command post. The stripe is blue because it is an original trilogy set. Duh!

Imagine them redoing this exact pack but with a different ranked clone ( red=captain blue=another one etc...) every year or months😍

Fun fact: if you imagine hard enough, the clone commander can double down as phase 1 Cody

LEGO was completely right to keep the blue stripe for this pack, I mean after all it’s designed to go with the Gunship, a set clearly from the original trilogy 👀

I feel like if the gunship had a clone pilot instead of a commander, this set would have been a 9 out of 10.

The blue stripe makes perfect sense to me. Blue for films, Orange for Mando (or all live action shows), and black for the UCS stuff

Edit: Didn't realize they were following the black series

The extra guns are to make up for the stud shooters we've had in so many battle packs.

The Clones in this set also double as Jango Fett so stop asking for another Jango figure.

I'm honestly torn on LEGO reusing the torso and leg prints for both phase 1 and phase 2 clones. On one hand it is a really nice looking print and reusing it would allow people to swap between phase 1 and phase 2 troops just by changing the helmets which would be very cool if they came out with a more diverse array of clone legions. And I think we can all agree that the phase 1 and 2 armor really do not look that different it is an extremely minimal difference but I do know they obviously are different. The negative is really a lack of diversity between phase 1 and 2 and ultimately the knowledge that the only real reason they are doing this is to cut costs and not have to produce different types of clones. Just another cost cutting measure for Lego. "Only the best is good enough."

I actually really like how they have everything in between clone wars and the movies, it’s like a duel purpose so there’s no inconsistencies between clone wars and movie sets because they’re the same character but in a different style

Problem is, being sold in LEGO stores mean it won't be dropping it's price anytime

"Makes a lot of sense if you dont think about it"

That deserves to be on a T-shirt, with the LEGO logo above it.

I don’t understand the disdain for figures appearing and cheaper sets that were previously exclusive to expensive sets. Every true LEGO fan should have a chance to get the product they want at a price they can afford. It comes off as very elitist in my opinion to complain about a figure not being exclusive to a $300 set. Furthermore, THIS specific minifig is not one that you should really care about the exclusivity of.

I will concede however that I would’ve rather seen three of the exact same clone, or maybe two of the regular clone and then a random third clone?

These prints are the same as seen on 501st, seems to me they're using this amalgamation of clone wars with movie design going forward with the clones, while I like the prints I don't see why they didn't just use the old print designs from like 2014, since the clones in the clonewars should look like clones from the movies, but Lego being Lego has led us here

Maybe the striped on the boxes aren’t based on movies. Just a thought, and it might be a dumb one, but maybe it’s blue stripes for EP 1-9 and orange for the expanded universe stuff. Not saying that’s good just could be what it is

I feel like they could have easily avoided all of this by standardizing the P1 clone trooper armor early on by just making them all movie accurate starting from 08
