There’s a restaurant near my house that has a split charge to dissuade people from wasting the staff’s time. When I was a kid I took it very seriously, and whenever my mom would split her stuff with my dad on her own accord without bothering anyone or paying, I thought she was breaking the rules. She was doing what the restaurant wanted, I was just an anxious child 😅

Every time I see an order splitin multiple equal parts like this, the first thing that comes up to my mind is "there is a parent who can't afford an ordered meal for every child, but still tries to bring them joy over a meal devided by X for every family member". (Many homes that barely get by once in a while deliver food to their house and it's a big thing for them)

So, I used to work at a fast food restaurant and had a meal order cut in 4. That seemed really strange to me as I was new there, and they were like "yeah poor people do this a lot when they can't afford to order for everyone". I told my delivery man to wait he's talking another 3 with you and they were on me, but he would give em only if they seemed like they needed. When the delivery boy arrived he saw FOUR kids rushing to the door. His jaw dropped once he realized that the man order a single order to be split equally his FOUR kids. Not himself. HIS KIDS

I never knew asking the restaurant to split it was a thing. I always just ask for a knife and/or an extra plate maybe to take care of ourselves, depending on what the item is.

My family always shares and splits meals. That said, it's always weird when the restaurant splits the food for us. Usually we just order, say we're sharing, ask for an extra plate and knife, and split it ourselves. Ain't that hard lol.

This is more of me getting humbled at the restaurant. I’ve been working at for years now I got asked to cut a persons burger in half the server didn’t explain to me why and I was in a bad mood. I didn’t want to do it turns out the guy didn’t have a hand so now I just cut the sandwiches and don’t ask questions

I used to have an elderly couple that would ask to have their burgers cut up to make them easier to eat so I don't really question "cut in X number of pieces" requests anymore I just assume its for accessibility reasons and move on.
