Finally someone who knows what he talks about. Thanks for the method, works way better than what I used to do.

I usually use a lighter to burn off enamel. But I’m trying to work with 42ga right now. The flame burns the wire up. So I am very happy to see this method works.

This helped me a lot, I tried this method before but was using a lower temperature out of laziness. Perfect results every time!

Many thanks to you. Just to let you know that over here, UK, it's very hard to get leaded solder and doing it this way doesn't work using unleaded solder, or rather I cannot get it to stick.

Thanks! I don't have separate flux to cover the wire in, only flux core solder so I couldn't get it to work until I started adding solder right there as I was touching the iron to the wire. Otherwise the flux just evaporated instantly. Also when I brought the iron all the way up to 480 it eventually melted the wire )

I've seen methods for everythnig from burning it off with a lighter to using the bare tip to melt it off and it never works. This method however was perfect, thanks for putting it out there!

This was very helpful, thanks, I’m guessing this doesn’t need to be done for non enameled copper wire??

is there a good way to do it in the middle of the wire too?
