I wonder if these people realize that most countries don’t use a popular vote to select their chief executive. Most countries use what’s known as a parliamentary system, whereby the legislature selects the chief executive.

Wow, you are the rare person who got it right. One scenario I used to use was a presidential candidate pledging to give people in California, Texas, Florida and New York zero taxes and everyone else double taxes. By straight majority rule it would win.

ARE YOU AWARE…? The electoral college is being circumvented by states who are signing legislation that their electors will all vote for whichever presidential candidate has the national majority vote. Many states have already agreed to this stupidity.

The problem isn't the electoral college, it's the winner take all system. When it works right, it ensures everyone is heard, but winner take all concentrates a version of the popular vote. If districts were represented instead of state collectives, it would better represent the country.

You CAN make the election democratic WITHOUT rewriting the constitution.
All you need to do, is to say that each state distributes their electors according to the distribution of votes in that state.
It won't GUARANTEE that the popular vote wins, but it will make it VERY unlikely that this doesn't happen. And then you can spend time afterwards to actually change the constitution.

Im over 40 and haven't heard the college explained in this way. I never was firm on a yes or no for the issue. Now..yes.. it makes perfect sense and i fully support the electoral college. Thank you.
