This sonification of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (2014) image plays a note for each galaxy when it emitted the light captured in this image. The farther away the galaxy is, the longer its light has traveled before reaching the Hubble Space Telescope.

In just under a minute, we can hear back nearly 13 billion years to the farthest galaxies in that photo. The light we receive from those galaxies was emitted when the universe was only a few hundred million years old.

It’s amazing that so many entire galaxies with potentially hundreds of billions of stars, planets, millions of alien civilizations, are all encapsulated in those little fuzzy patches of light. It’s almost a certainty that somewhere out there, on some other world, there’s a telescope looking back at us, and our entire galaxy is just a smudge of light. Maybe there’s even someone right now contemplating the same thing about our little galaxy, someone I’ll never meet or even know the existence of, but sharing an experience across the near-infinite gulf of blackness between us.

I'm so tired of computer graphic videos 98% of anything you see anymore is just a computer made rendering of what it might actually look like
