Seeing all these comments from Montreal fans BEFORE they acquired Laine and then changing their minds after, is funny

Trade complete! Great trade for habs. Big winger, can score, Fit for 2yrs, get a pick, trade an extra D, they have the cash, if it doesn’t work you got that pick, and have 5 less big contracts in 2yrs so you can sign someone else, or if it works, keep him

Very few people understand Laine. He does not want under the radar, he wants to contend for the cup, not play beach ball. He excelled in Liiga, U18, U20, WC and Jets when they played in playoffs or for a medal.

His buddied from the same age group, Barkov, Rantanen, Aho, Hintz, and Heiskanen are all playing games that matter most seasons. It's eating him up playing in a bottom feeder team that can maybe be in the playoffs 3 years from now.

Nope not Montreal for Laine. Drouin couldn't handle Montreal. Utah might be a good fit. No big expectations.

Montreal is not the place for Laine. Sunbelt team out of the spotlight is where he needs to play.

Laine kind of reminds me of Alexei Kovalev. One of the most offensively gifted players of his time and was actually a captain for a time in Montreal, but he was known for taking not just shifts and games but whole seasons off. He could have been so much more than he was. I remember when people said he could be a perennial 100 point player in the dead puck era, but every year, he’d be hit and miss. He won one Cup as a younger support player. Laine has the skill, but his compete and will to win just isn’t there most nights. I almost think if you’re at the draft table, you’re better off with the Barkov/Bergeron/Madden type of player who might not have the skill to score every night but does everything for you. Those players also could potentially be cheaper and with a salary cap, you’re trying to save every penny.

more team defense could make Laine contract more attractive? otherwise has done pretty well except for injuries / missed games?

Depends how little habs give up and he only has 2 years on his deal

Leafs have no respect for the goaltending position. They still don't have a bona fide starter. Meh ... overrated.

No! Not a fit and he is constantly injured!

Laine couldn't deal with Winnipeg pressure, love the scoring potential but for his own mental health, avoid montreal media like the plague.

Why not ? As long as the price is fair and doesnt affect the core of the rebuild

Not, he’s a one trick pony and doesn’t fit timeline.

This guy obviously has no understanding of the pressure players are under to perform well in Montreal.

We love guys like Pezzetta and Evans etc...who give it their all however a guy like Laine with the salary he brings will be expected to produce big time.

Under the radar, really?? IMO, thanks but no thanks.
