And you're left feeling the pit of despair which he feels as Man turns to face the roaring crowd; because - like Ip Man - you realize that the duel changed nothing. The Japanese were still there. The Japanese still oppressed their people. The Chinese people were still dying, starving and poor. Just like when he had fought the men at the dojo and confided in Wing Sing -- Ip Man felt small and useless. His victory over one general would not - and could not - save his country from the oppression of the Japanese.

This scene (from the time I marked) always makes me cry.
Such powerful music. This soundtrack is a beautiful masterpiece, honestly.
