Trip Attack
When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to attempt to knock the target down. You add the superiority die to the attack’s damage roll, and if the target is Large or smaller, it must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, you knock the target prone.

one of my favorites....I have used this in many situations from shooting and knocking down a wizard escaping with an important quest item to sweeping a Lich and setting them up for the final blow

Now this one is good, the ability to knock anyone that isn’t a gigantic monster prone is incredible. I’ve seen it used really well because most of my baddies are evil wizards, mummy lords, liches, and other humanoid sized monsters.

Also nice catch on the archery option, I was really mad when my player knocked out the wyvern my oathbreaker paladin was riding

I'm just a little confused. I see they make a Strength Save but what is the vs DC

I don't know how anyone can say Combat Maneuvers are somehow more straight forward in 5e. This is fairly convoluted...

Sure they make a Strength Saving throw but against what?

Also Superiority die? I assume this means only certain classes can use Combat Maneuvers?

Im a bit confuse,
"...if target is large or smaller, it must make strength saving.."

So is that means :
*Target size <= Large, must DC Str
*Target size > Large, instant prone, no DC Str

Or..
*Target size > Our size < Target size, must DC Str.
*Target size = Our size, instant prone

So does this and pushing attack only work on Large or smaller creatures? For example human couldn´t trip another human?

Tried this maneuver, it scales poorly. Scaling for str and proficiency with a base of 8 is not enough to be a consistent hit on any target 'strong' It should act as the knock down attack but adding damage which is a lot easier to do. Heck a fighter with Extra attack can simply flank an enemy for advantage, knock them down and then swing with their other attack since a knock down attack already counts as an attack action. Think of this as a mage masher because it will not work on many things. Mages are already weak to being smashed in the face, this is redundant. Improvement would be if it acted like sweep and made the DC equivalent to the attack roll. So if you swung with 19 DC is 19 to avoid tripping. The way it is, I will probably swap out of it first chance.
