Storms and heavy rains in much of Germany flooded roads and forced the closure of some major rail routes Friday, but no injuries were reported.
Earlier this week, Germany's national weather service warned of severe storms with significant rainfall that hit Thursday.
In the western city of Duisburg, the fire department said it rescued several people from cars stuck in flooded streets. In the northern city of Brunswick, stores and streets were flooded, and similar reports came from Kassel. In Hattersheim near Frankfurt, trees fell on houses and cars, German news agency dpa reported.
Germany's national rail operator Deutsche Bahn said the main line between Hamburg and Berlin was closed because of hurricane damage, as was the main north-south route between Kassel and Göttingen.
Transportation authorities in the city of Kassel in the central state of Hesse said bus and train services were disrupted by the storm, and it is not yet clear when normal traffic will resume.
Emergency authorities in the western city of Neuwied, in Rhineland-Palatinate, told the German news agency DPA that people had to be rescued from their cars after rainwater flooded an underpass late Thursday night.
