BMW E24 M6 | Buy a Shark Now Because It's Almost Too Late!

Показать описание
The legendary BMW E24 M6 is a great car that represents the best of German automobiles of the 1980s. But the first-generation M6 is quickly becoming a collector car too. Are prices too expensive now to afford this high-performance, luxurious Autobahn cruiser? Or can you still buy one at a good price and add one to your portfolio as a solid automotive investment?

We'll discuss basic M6 details and specs, historical pricing and production numbers, then compare the M6 to current market climate conditions to see where the trend line is heading. We'll also compare the M6 to its former contemporaries such as the 928S4, along with side-by-side comparisons to the first-generation M3 and M5 to provide greater valuation context to assess it's market appreciation potential.

I saw a few M6s over the last couple of years in the Vancouver (CA) area but decided not to jump when I had the chance. Ended up getting a high mileage 5-speed 635csi for much less money. Its clean but not perfect, which means I can drive it without feeling too guilty. M6 or not, the E24 is achingly beautiful...especially the euro versions.

I love the E24. I used to sneak my step-dad's pristine light blue metallic L6 out for play whenever he went on vacation. I got myself an E63 650i when I grew up. Can't say I'm crazy about the new one though.

Damn these cars are beautiful, such a shame it'll be too late by the time I can afford one :/

I only stopped dailying an e24 about 4 years ago. I had an e30 before it, & both cars were dead reliable even after many hundreds of thousands of miles.

Bought my '85 M635 for $9k in 2009. 150k miles. Car is in excellent shape, original everything. Definitely made a good investment.

What do you think about the e31s future? I think e39 or m or e31 is the last great classics for bmw. E46 m ain't too shabby

I own a 628, is there usually signs of trickle down in terms of the value gained on the m6? so will the other models see an increase as people with a lower budget want in but can't get the m6?
also, I know it's later than when you made the video, but a low mileage pristine m6 sold for over 100k recently.

I got a nice bonus from the military a while back. I knew I’d blow through that on really dumb stuff so I decided to buy a project car. I was hooked on American muscle for some reason but thankfully I had my friend’s dad show me his friends 1982 635CSI that’d just been collecting dust. I really didn’t know what I stumbled upon until this year and I’ve got some really exciting ideas for it. Can’t wait to post it up on youtube when it’s done.

I have a euro 500 SEC, but I’d love a euro 635 CSi. A lot of similarities, but very different beasts. The Beamers are certainly harder to find and therefore have higher pricing.

I love E24's I own an Canadian market 85' 635CSi in Alpine Weiss on schwartz interior. Has the front airdam/valence with integrated fog lights, rear spoiler, M-tec Wheel ( which I swapped out for an early Nardi Torino from an E12 based E24.) with a factory wooden shift knob to match. The seats are also the sports seats and the car has the Canadian winter package so heated seats and LSD aswell. Peculiar thing though is the car has M badges ( I know there wasn't actually an offical North American M635CSi and I know a true ///M has the M88 or S38 respectively.) however they are oem badges and placed exactly where they would be on the M counter parts and they are extremely faded so they've been there a good long time. I've also seen a couple other 635's with the same M badges.

I haven't took the time yet but I want to trace back the previous owners and see how long the car has had them and see if one of the owners put them on or perhaps a dealer. Since it was an 85' it technically was the best available in North America ( except perhaps a grey market M635CSi) since the M6 wasn't officially released so they may have followed the marketing style of the M535i ( E28) .

Probably just some poor sob in the 90's that wished he had an M6 though LOL

What is your take on the 850i (non csi) as an investment? They seem to be at an absolute rock bottom price at the moment. I have found a few great and well maintained examples, with low miles for under $20k. Will we see these eventually take off in price in the coming years? I missed the boat on the M6 and the 996 Turbo (both climbing steadily in price) as my budget is under 40k for my next investment.

Series 1 E24s were built by Karman (up to '82 based on the E12 5 series). Series 2 E24s were built by BMW (from '83 onwards Based on E28 5 series)..

Whats the update on the e24 m6 now? Has it gone up since 2017? I have an opportunity to pick up a nice one and want to get an opinion.

My '01 BMW Z3 3.0i stickered for $45k. I bought it for $11k in 2016 with 19k miles on it. People keep offering me $9k-$11k for it. Not gonna do it. Someday soon the market is going to realize what a sweet ride it is. There aren't any similar cars being built anymore.

Great video. Curious if you have an opinion on the Ferrari Mondial?

Hi Chris, the e24 is been my car since the 80s but like you said ' you would of had to be someone with money back then, and I was not. I bought a 635csi '85 in the late 90s, great deal with 53k miles and I still have it. I finally got the m6 I always wanted (looks like I got in at the best time. .. thanks ) can't keep both, so what do you think about the value of the 635csi. .. does that have a chance of doing well?

Great video. What will be interesting would be to see one for the BMW 850CSi which had low global production numbers, 1510 and only 225 came stateside. For being a flagship that was not only expensive, but was first in the automotive industry in a number of feats to include mating a 12 cylinder onto a six-speed transmission and use of fly-by-wire technology reducing wire cabling in vehicular manufacturing, I will be interested, if possible on your end to hear such an analysis.

I think that and the E30 six cylinder convertibles and two door coupes (non-M version which are considered a cheaper alternative to the E30 M3) are also on the uptick.
