I had no clue we were supposed to be doing this 🤯 #wow @Jmg8tor

Take the housing off, clean the coils. Spray the outside and then use the hose from the inside out. So you're not packing it in. Grandma out

My dad was an HVAC contractor for over 40 years. He had his own business. I remember as a teenager being taught about cleaning and maintaining AC units, changing filters on my furnace, etc... My dad did not care that I am a female. He had 3 daughters and 1 son, and every one of us kids learned how to do this. He believed that we all needed to learn how to be self-sufficient and independent. When I got my drivers license he also taught me how to change a tire, check all the fluids in my vehicle, and how to change my oil. My dad taught life skills to me and my siblings. I love my dad very very much and am so incredibly grateful for him!! I am now a single woman in my 40s, and as a teacher I've tried to instill some life skills into my elementary students. They're not too young to start learning this stuff.

I'm an HVAC guy and I approve this message, just one tiny detail.
Try to remove the side covers, if you can, the coil is actually behind them.

Another important point… When mowing the grass make sure you’re not blowing grass or dirt into the unit. It all builds up on the coils, clogs, effects the flow and efficiency, can ruin the system. A lesson I learned as a landlord !!!

Another tip, turn of your ac when mowing. The f unit pulls the grass clippings into it if running.

Couple other tips. Don’t blow your grass towards the unit when mowing and have some type of ground cover around it, pine straw, mulch etc. a pump sprayer with 1/2 gallon of water and a couple tablespoons of Dawn Dishsoap shook up real well works just as good. Cleaned my parents unit a couple years ago and it dropped the air temp two degrees when the a/c unit was blowing!

I have a contract with my AC company to come clean my AC and furnace yearly. They take covers off vacuum and replace my filters. After spending money on new units, I believe its worth the extra cost👍🏼

Take the hex screws off the top rim and set that aside on top (the fan cord is your limitation). I gently hose down the inside and outside of coils, then apply the foam cleaner inside and out. Let it get for 15 minutes. Then GENTLY hose from the inside to outward so the debris isn't blown into the bottom of your heat pump housing. Gently because you do not want to damage the aluminum fins. Pay attention to grease and debris and clear it all. You can then also hose from the outside gently if anything is lodged in the other direction. Recheck for debris. Repeat foam application and rinsing if necessary until coils are clean. Let it dry in sun. Reattach top.

He cleaned the outside grate, the coils are behind that protective grate.

Im refrigeration technician! Is a good practice to open the grid that protects the coil and use the coil cleaner directly to the fins then from the inside out you spray the coil! If it's a heat pump and not just cooling this process needs to be done twice a year if it is just a cooling system once a year is fine! Now if it is a walk-in box again twice a year needs to be done!

Oh, it hurt my heart that he only does the outside of the panels. 😂

We learned a few years ago, after having issues with our AC unit not working, that we needed to be cleaning it regularly. The panels around the sides can be unscrewed and you clean off the coils and the front and back of the panels. We usually just hose it down... Have never used a foam cleaner.

We have a lot of cottonwood in our area and it coats the coils. It's very satisfying to watch it "peel" off the coils as we clean it. Hopefully next time he cleans his AC, he'll take off the panels!

Omg! My dad is a retired diesel mechanic. Twice a year my entire life, he has serviced every mechanical thing any of us own refrigerators, washers, dryers, ac units, etc. My parents have been married 48 years. Within the last 10 years they finally needed to replace their HVAC and refrigerator.

The nerve of the church not
to have any coil cleaner..
Don’t they know that cleanliness
is next to Godliness? Ain’t no way

That’s one of many things I do for a living that’s incredible. I didn’t know that people did not know to clean their coils. Saves you so much money in it. Make sure your system perform better. The greatest you can have is to have a professionally done, but yeah, you can go spray your coils down even with a water hose that does help.

Building Maintenance Supervisor here, and we did Wash & Filter Change of the Rooftop Units every May. You also have to Wash & Clean the Heat Exchangers inside the Ductwork as well inside the Building. If you don’t, you'll be replacing AC Compressors on a regular basis.

I have the company come do maintenance once a year. They check the entire system, including pressure testing the vents and what not. It's sucks to put out money but at least I know it's done and done right ❤

Love your content and here’s a lil help from a maintenance tech for all trades. You need to remove the top and sides to clean your coils because the way the outer cover is made. I’d be glad to come help you and do a video together

One of the best things to do is when it's clean, wrap the unit with fiberglass window screening, they sell it by the roll, Home Depot, Lowes, either one should have it. Buy some magnets to hold the screen in place. What this will do is prevent grass clippings from being sucked into the coil and clogging it. It's still a good idea to open it up and clean it good once a year and replace the screen if needed.

I remember doing this out on the farm since my dad was a mechanic. There was no way he would pay a mechanic to do something he can do. So anytime we had HVAC problems he figured it out so as I got older I remember every summer we would do this. Sometimes more than once but we also lived off of a gravel road and anyone that's done that knows about the dirt that coats anything outside😂

You've gotta spray the actual coils. You sprayed the outside of the unit. Some probably got through on to the coils but not much. The best way is to do it from the inside. I think you wasted that can
