Johnnie To, whose career we surveyed a couple of years back, continues to make films that are obsessive, virtuosic, and unpredictable. His latest, THREE, is set entirely in a bustling Hong Kong hospital, as a crime boss with a bullet wound in his head refuses surgery and makes arrangements to have his gang free him from police custody, all the while taunting the tough cop who shot him, in increasingly loopy ways. The whole thing resolves in a hurricane of action that is unlike any other such sequence in film history.
