Join Dr. Frederic Lemieux, Faculty Director for the master's in Applied Intelligence, and Suzanne E. Spaulding, the former undersecretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) at the Department of Homeland Security, as they discuss the future of applied intelligence.

Dr. Lemieux started it off by saying that the U.S. authority claimed that the ISIS terrorist organization has been defeated and asked Spaulding if she would agree. Spaulding said that even though ISIS lost a lot of its territory, they have absolutely not been defeated. Defeating them on the ground has helped to lessen some of their credibility and legitimacy, which may have some impact on their ability to recruit.

Dr. Lemieux then asked what role the DHS can play in preventing or mitigating data breaches and cyberattacks that have plagued 2017 by a large scale. Spaulding said we should expect more and that they need to stay on top of this as well. Theft of intellectual property and personal information hasn't gone away, but now there is worry about access to data.

In Focus is filmed at Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies and brings together professors, faculty members, guest lecturers, and thought leaders to engage in conversations that range from leadership to technology and beyond.
