Yes Brian. A truly tough guy doesn’t walk around acting tough or trying to prove he’s tough. He’s quiet and respectful and tends to go unnoticed. It’s the unintelligent guy who THINKS he’s tough who makes a lot of noise.

Aliens across the stars are quiet, they are quiet because of the things lurking in the dark of space waiting for prey to show itself. Humans start making noise, a nearby alien sends a message back to earth that for the sake of their world they need to hide. Earth goes silent and the aliens pat themselves on the back for saving this young species.
Years, decades pass suddenly a loud shout goes out across space, it is Earth they are shouting here we are come get us. Across the dark of space, hidden dangers, dark civilizations wake up hearing the call of prey. For years all hiding aliens "hear" the noise of war as the horrors of the dark descend on Earth.
One day the silence returns, the nearby aliens assume earth is gone. Then a message goes out. Earth says to all that can hear "Sorry for the noise, but we hate the quiet."

The signals are very weak just at the end of the solar system, just think how small they are at the closest star much less a galaxy. The signals are basically undetectable because of the background noise. The error detection on Voyager 1/2 is amazing but they are still relatively close to us.

Reminds me of a new episode of Love Death and Robots. They find an alien civilization thats similar to aunts as far as intelligence, but has survived for eons, untouched. The quote they give humans is "Intelligence is not a winning survival trait." It's existentially horrific

We have a lot of grandiose ambitions that will not come to fruition due to an obvious flaw in our basic mathematics. Our Math as it pertains to weights and measures does not scale accurately. Until we come to terms with that reality and make strides to use a more accurate base for our math we will forever be relegated to this lower level of existence.

Makes my head hurt just to think of the level of effort it would take at this point in time to even begin the mathematical correction.
