So 11 of them moved here with nothing and ended up living like a lot of Brits were living.
We had a massive slum clearance going on at the time. I lived with my grandparents until I was 5.
When my parents finally got a house in 1969 several black families moved onto our brand new estate, nobody bothered them, two of the lads were amongst my closest friends.
Maybe we were just nicer in Birmingham.

As bad as this man claims it was in England when his parents emigrated there, it must have been better than where his family came from or they would not have stayed. Do stop whining.

His description of how people when his family first arrived in the UK is exactly how my father, white and indigenous, lived in the north of England as one of 11 surviving children. Overcrowding was the norm and we were still rebuilding after the war…that wasn’t racism, that’s was life for many.

My question is... What was the situation in his original country?

I think all Caribbean people should move to Britain and let the British all move to the Caribbean.

Britain is one of the most tolerate countries. You only have to look at the numbers of people who want to live here from India and Africa. Not to mention the numbers fleeing France and the EU across the channel. Maybe all those complaining all the time on the TV should swop places and go and live in the camps in France or over to India or Africa. No one is forced to live here, it’s a free country. We all know they won’t leave because the UK actually a fantastic place to live. Some people just love to bitch about everything and anything.

Sounds like some immigrants had never heard of family planning😅

Sonce when did council tenants get a say in who moved into a council estate?

Nothing to do with being poor immigrants but everything to do with being black. Also there’s a lot of guys I would have never taken home to meet dad because of his views but that generation is from the 50s … a time when there was racism. The daughter was dating a black guy and the mother was making an effort to meet him - so much for his racist racism victim views I guess

There's something super counter-intuitive in sociology that empires are WAY more tolerant than non-empires.

Empires, definitionally, need to have a huge variety of ethnicities inside of them. So balancing the rights and needs of all those ethnicities is central to all empires. Non-empires are always the most racist societies of any time. They are way more ethnically homogenous, and often end up as a kind of de facto ethnostate as a result. Look at Japan or Argentina or Rwanda for examples. Compared to societies like Rome or the Ottomans or America, all hugely cosmopolitan empires.

a man with known xenophobic and misogynistic views asking a man kicked out of the labour party for islamophobia (who starmer had no problem reinstating; after all, he didn’t insult jewish people, so why should starmer care(!)) about racism. 😱😱😱

i had to watch twice to check this was not an alan partridge-like parody.

Yes Trevor compared to today….are you trying to suggest that Britain is the same place today for black people as it was when your parents moved here, how many decades ago?
Just answer the ducking question and stop trying to play victim all the time, we’re getting seriously sick of it in this country.
