Great analysis. I think you’re right, in the short term, there likely won’t be much change for either provider. Over time they will find synergies as they define the go forward offerings.

That aside, I would submit the ship has sailed for these traditional satellite based services. It’s difficult to be innovative when you’re losing subscribers and ultimately revenue to fund innovation.

That said, it seemingly has worked for XM/Sirius. It will be interesting to see how this works out.

Last point, the irony for me is there was a day not too long ago where Charlie Ergen was set to buy Directv. This was before the AT&T days. Ultimately it was shot down due to anti competitive concerns. In fact his parting gift for the merger failing was the spectrum he was granted. He used that to compete in the cellular market. That is also another challenging market to compete in. I don’t see anyone disrupting the big 3 in that space.

I’ve had sling for 2 years and really enjoy it. The are the only service that has NHL network at a cheap price. Sling Orange and the sports package $51.
The only other service that has my channels is DTV and I can’t stand them anymore at to expensive

Downside of OTA on 5G would be the distance. Also an issue with Cell Providers the 5G signal doesn't travel far and TV signals need that distance to cover their markets.

I was with DirectTV for about 3 years & IT SUCKED!!!! All I could find was infomercials & sports and they kept going up on their price every month. :-( I've been with Dish Network for over 15yrs now & have been very happy. I'm NOT very happy about hearing this!!!!

One way to get someone who is set in their ways to switch to streaming is to use Jellyfin, if they also have a computer. Host their favourite tv shows on the desktop pc (preferably hard wired to the router), and let the lack of commercials do the work.
My mom is an extreme technophobe, and she completely cut the cord. Oddly she mostly just watches YouTube. She subscribes to YouTube premium, so no ads. I also setup a Jellyfin server for her with her favourite shows and movies.

I enjoy sling . I enjoy watching horror movies and sling has a lot of live TV horror channels. I will miss that if sling is discontinued. I like that Sling has good budget friendly prices for the packages.
