How to start and finish hand quilting | hand quilting tutorial | Quilting Q&A

In this quick video I show how to begin a line of hand quilting, both when you're starting from the edge of the quilt and when you're starting in the middle of the quilt. Then I show how to tie off your thread when you've finished hand quilting so it doesn't unravel and stays nice and secure.

Hand quilting is easy and fun, and once you know how to start hand quilting and how to finish your hand quilting you'll have no problem securing your quilt sandwich this way moving forward.

You do need to know how to tie a quilter's knot for this, so make sure you've watched this video below and have practiced making a quilter's knot a few times!

Hi! New to hand quilting here, if you start on the edge, do you still make a knot and pop it in? Or do you leave the end of the thread without a knot for trimming the edges later? Thank you!

I know when you start and finish you don’t go through the entire 3 layers of the quilt, but what about when you’re doing your hand quilting stitches? Is it meant to show on the other side?
