IFA 2012: Sony shows 4K TV, improves on high-def

Sony will launch before the end of this year a TV with four times the number of pixels as today's high-def sets. Follow reporter Martyn Williams @martyn_williams

There may not be any content for this kind of resolution but you could (as previously stated) used it as a monitor for your computer and the computer, if strong enough, should be able to output graphics at this resolution letting you play games in the most awesome way ever.

there eventually will be is my guess. Atleast movie form. I doubt cable companies will start streaming quality good enough for these any time soon. Right now most channels are still only 1080i max.

It is completely possible to show your own photos (which usually have way better resolution than 1080p. It there is software that can show stereophotographs on this TV anybody with even one camera could do 3D 4K content with photographs. And of course you can already now do 3D You Tube channel with 1080p resolution and watch videos on 3D TV. Many don´t know 3D has been possible in Full HD through You Tube for couple of years now. You can do better 3D movies than Hollywood and compete with pros.

He is rigth. There is nothing that is supported by 4K. No movies, no shows, and no video games. It will be a waste Just to pay $5k or more for this thing. might as well just wait a year or so after it come out so everything get get reformatted.
