The new album from George Clanton is finally here. Even though the new Esprit LP just came out November 2017 (ESPRIT 空想 is another moniker of George Clanton), this album "Slide" has been in progress for over 3 years.

Pulling from a much larger cache of influences, "Slide" effortlessly slips between genres throughout, even multiple times per track, while still sounding grounded.

"Slide" is proof that George Clanton cannot make an experimental album. This is a new form of pop music - simple and nostalgic, and at the same time fresh and exciting.

I like this album because of its consistency. I feel like it's all trying to express one big emotion yet in different ways within each song. It's a feeling of wanting, desperation, emotion, intensity, vulnerability, and desire. Oftentimes it almost seems as if it is a giant love letter, with the artist expressing an intense love for his beloved, and the suffering that so often accompanies love.

This somehow sounds like the impossible scenario where Beck had evolved into how he is now but still had got stuck in the 90s. Makes no sense, but vaporwave kind of doesn't anyway... It's like the music you hear in your dreams that shouldn't exist in reality.

Three years later and this album is still amazing to me. I am a huge sucker for vaporwave, especially vaporwave music that is original to its nature and isn't riddled with samples of already existing music. I endorse this album and what message each song is trying to convey. I love how the album progresses into more dreamy-aesthetics-territory (after Dumb) from the more tangible and hard beats of the drums and synths in the first few songs, where past "Dumb", the songs start to sound more drawn out, drowned out by a bunch of air and echoes to emphasize the emotions in the last few songs. This whole album is great material for a smooth vibe around your friends.
