Racers and trackday riders seeking a booty-less premium roadrace boot should take a look at Sidi’s Mag-1 Boots.

A staple in the Italian brand’s line-up the Mag-1 is a lightweight front-entry boot with a unique and idiot-proof three point ratcheting enclosure. The zipper-less system uses a combination of magnetics and steel laces that Sidi terms its Micrometric Tecno-3 magnetic closure. The top lace has an adjustment range of nearly two-inches to accommodate a wide range of calf sizes.

Built atop a grippy dual-compound sole that incorporates a removable and water-resistant liner. The stiff sole is built to keep you safe, as well as hold up to the constant abuse of movement against metal footpegs.

The main chassis is fabricated from Sidi’s Technomicro synthetic material that looks like leather, but is better than cow hide offering greater durability and suppleness. Key areas are also double stitched. Hidden beams of carbon fiber reinforce the chassis and mitigate lateral flex. The front and rear of the boot use ribbed polyurethane panels which enhance foot dexterity.

The interior is comprised of Cambrelle — another synthetic fabric that’s soft to the touch, wicks away sweat and reduces bacteria that lead to odor.

Protection consists of rigid shock-absorbing heel cups comprised from tri-density molded plastic. Sidi claims they are capable of shock absorption in a 3mm range. The hardened toe box is reinforced and includes a TPU shift panel and adjustable vents incorporated into the toe slider. The ankle cups also feature external plastic sliders. Added protection comes from molded plastic plates at the shin and behind the calf.

Built to last, most of the external components and plastic sliders can be replaced in the event of a crash, or from normal wear and tear. The Sidi Mag-1 Boots are available in men’s sizes 7.5 to 12.5.

I just bought a pair online, as I couldn't find any shop nearby to try them on; very comfy, the ratchet system is very nice, quite easy too. but... but... even though people keep saying I have chicken legs (+/- 45cm calf), it's nigh impossible to close the top latch when wearing leathers (legs of the pants go inside the boots). How on earth to solve this? Can I buy the 'replaceable' ratchet thingie with a slightly longer steel wire? Any other solution?
