I think his music now slaps. He can kill it on guitar, like in the Splash Hill Zone guitar cover. SEGA probably wants him to just use that shitty Genesis sound emulator.

Jun made this same mistake with Sonic 4. His modern music style really is better suited for guitars, not Genesis sounding music. it sounds like he wants to compose it more like Adventure 2.

He's a good composer, I just think his arrangements these days are generally lacking and play into a very generalised idea of what he thinks Classic Sonic is. I wonder what it would be like if he was working under another director who had specific requests for how the game should sound.

A lot of Sonic 3D Blast's music on the Sega Genesis was actually meant for Sonic Adventure. There's some tracks in the beta of 3D Blast that ended up being used in Sonic Adventure for different stages. The games were made only a few years apart from each other.

11 months late at the time, but the superstars boss theme reminds me of the Gun Mobile track from SA2, which compoaition-wise, these are very similar in structure, but the main thing is instrumentation

What many people don't know is that jun actually made tapes that were than send to the developers. So I think he never actually did any Genesis sounds at all.

I thought I heard somewhere that Jun wasn’t the one who programmed the music into the Classic Sonic games, but rather just composed them, but I honestly don’t remember where I heard that from, so take that with a grain of salt.

Also, I personally have a soft spot for Jun’s compositions. I grew up with Sonic 4 Episode 1 and 2 along with the other Classic Sonic games on mobile, so I get nostalgic for the instruments he uses, lol. (Plus, he’s the reason why we got the Metal Sonic boss theme from Sonic 4 Episode 2 and Death Egg Mk. II. Those songs are SO good.)

i think his genesis music is good as the melodies are catchy, i get some tracks stuck in my head sometimes
