London covered in snow as schools announce closures

Snow blanketed East Finchley as schools in London, Gloucestershire, Sussex and Devon announced closures for Monday.

Commuters are urged to travel cautiously during Monday’s morning rush-hour as yellow warnings of ice, fog and snow are in place for much of the UK.

The Met Office issued the alerts as temperatures are expected to stay well below freezing overnight and combine with wintry showers to create icy conditions and more than 10 cm of snow.

When I was a boy, 50 years ago we went to school in all sorts of weather, todays snow fall wouldn't have been anything.

In 2003 when I was in secondary school in London, they didn't close for this. We had to go in still in the ice. At morning break a snow/ice ball war ensued, teenagers ended up going to hospital. That was chaos.

People in Scandinavia must laugh there socks of at us wimps here! A bit of snow and everything stops, it’s Winter! It’s minus 28c in parts of Finland, they don’t stop.

WTF are schools closing for? I walked through way worse than that and sat in a barely heated classroom when I was at Primary and Junior Schools. Pathetic wimps. who want a day off for no reason.

I am up in the western highlands -8 and snow i got to work at 7.30am and all the kids are in school. Most cars / mini buses up here have winter tyres on since mid October.

When there is snow these days a lot of young snowflakes stay at home. Total melts!

Unbelievable, I know I sound like a broken record, but when I was 5 years old I had to walk through foot deep snow with 6 foot drifts to school, 1963, one mile, only closed for one day when heating failed.
Kids/parents don't realise these days. etc etc etc.
