I’d recommend collecting what you actually want to play. Stop right there. Anything else will just collect dust on the shelves until you’ve decided it’s time to sell.

Just realized I’ve never seen your game room! We need a 2025 tour 😊

That tip about buying cheap clean copies of sports games for case swaps is actually underrated as hell, great tip!

I've taken my foot off the gas with game collecting. I'm ready to play through my absolutely massive backlog.

The biggest tip I would give to a new collector is to avoid the hype. Once you start hearing news about a certain console or game, that means you are already too late. For example, if everyone is looking for stuff on the Xbox 360, go the opposite direction and focus on the Wii or ps3. Prices fluctuate all the time so you can always go back to the Xbox 360 when the hype fades. The reason you don't want to buy during the hype is because you will be buying at the top (its most expensive price). Let the hype cool off, and have prices settle first before deciding to dip in.

To quote Scott the Woz “I’ve tried game scanning apps before and I always quit them. Because at the point I have to ‘keep track’ of my collection, it starts to become a job”.

Tip for powered HDMI converters, most modern TVs have a USB port and in most cases (all i've used) that is enough power to use the converter so you won't need an external power source. Hope this helps someone!

I've cut back on collecting since i pretty much have everything i wanna play. That being said I always recommend collecting for consoles that are cheap. Original Xbox & sega genesis are still really cheap with a huge amount of games.

Love these kinds of videos. This is the channel that got me into collecting physical games. It has become a big part of my life.

I had games stores in boxes for a while but I asked for shelving for Christmas. Now all of my games are on display. I collect a little bit of everything but the Switch is my favorite to collect for.

I have a game collection but I don't take pride in displaying it and although my initial plan was to play video games I haven't even begin to play with half of my library.

It clutters my mind and selling stuff is a real relief. It took a long time for me to realize that but I'm on the right track.

I am dedicated to have a strong PlayStation & Xbox collection. I have backwards compatible PS3, PS3 SuperSlim, 3 Xboxes 360, original Xbox with Duke etc. My focus currently is on PS2 and X360 games. Just got long anticipated Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Revolution for PS2 and I love those versions. That's a Christmas for me :)

My old school way of keeping track of all the video games I own (since the XBOX 360 generation), is I take pictures of every game I buy, and I do it by console type. So if I bought 4 XBOX Series X, 3 PS5, & 5 Switch games today, that would be 3 differnt pics I took today (via console type). So when I'm shopping, I'm scrolling thru my pics if I forgot if I have something or not! I enjoy seeing my collection pics. I have thousands of games, since I been collecting over 45 years.

Tips for owning retro games in 2025. First, only buy the consoles/games that you actually want to collect. You may overpay for some of them, but at least you'll be happier you did. Secondly, get into modding or purchase some devices that can run emulators because this will help save you lots of money and space. Lastly, enjoy what's in your collection no matter what you own. You may not have the biggest collection or the most expensive one, but it shouldn't matter because it's not a competition. All the overhype for retro games are just exhausting and honestly destroying the gaming community because games are meant to be fun and memorable. It should never be used as a market to get rich off.

Bro, Limited Run Games is the king of fomo. Get it now while you can, before it gets stupid expensive. How many collectors look at an LGR release and think "I should not be spending this money, but if I don't get it now..."

Don't quite have a collection or anything, but all games I truly love I do own physically.
I don't want some subscription service to take away what I own. Not just that, I also like being able to replay a game I really like WHEN I want, not when the subscription service (or the internet provided) wants me to have acces to it.

The exception to this is my 3ds which has apps on it to say the least.

For anyone who can't afford physical games, and is a little more technically literate. I highly recommend going digital. I have a server in my house with 73tb of storage where I have over 80k games. If you mod the consoles you can run all the way up to the PS3/360 through the network.

Space is a huge factor and it’s helpful to set a limit for yourself. I have a shelf in my linen closet for my physical games. If I run out of space, that’s it. Be mindful about physical games you really love/remember and have the hardware to play. Hardware being key: I was a dumb kid that traded in my N64 and small amount of games for a GameCube. I would LOVE to own Beetle Adventure Racing! again but what’s the point if I don’t have an N64? Anything else I have nostalgia on the N64 I can play via virtual console so it isn’t worth it.

It really is about timing and being into stuff before the interest skyrockets.

In 2015-2016 I collected a lot of JRPGs for the DS. Loose Chrono Trigger DS for $30. I remember thinking that was a lot for a loose game. Pokemon SoulSilver, Platinum. I got in on the Square Enjx blowout sale of new in case Dragon Quest 4, 5, 7, and 8 on the DS and 3DS respectively.

In late 2013 (I remember because it was still cold and it was shortly after Pokemon X came out) I got Dragon Quest 9 for the DS loose at GameStop for a good price.

A lot are still in my backlog because my interest in gaming waxes and wanes, but I am so happy to have them in my tiny collection at the price I got them for.

Limited run feels like Christmas. I straight up forget my orders and they show up randomly and makes me smile

My recommendation for someone who wants to start collecting emulate and save the money for something more important. You probably can play most of the 1, 000 games in his collection on a $150-$200 emulation handheld.
