My Grandmother's Top 5 Favorite Retro Games

We didn't have any Nintendo games in my house when I was a kid, not until I bought my own SNES after my first job. I could only play things like NES, SNES, Atari 2600, and Intellivision because my Grandmother was a huge gamer and had that stuff at her house. Here is what I believe to be her top 5 favorite games growing up.

This is one of my favorite videos that you’ve made in awhile. The great thing about memories like these with loved ones is that we can keep them forever.

My uncle gave me the original Zelda for my 6th birthday, I couldn't believe my eyes unwrapping it and seeing the box for the first time. This was my golden ticket. Nothing has replaced that feeling.

I didn't grow up playing games with my grandparents, but I did grow up playing games with Aunts and uncles, cousins and siblings! Great video, Billy!

I happy to here your Grandmother played games! I am the gamer casus of mine. Her top games were Legend Of Zelda (NES), Faxandu(NES), The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time(64), Gauntlet Legands(64) and Of course the last game we played together she played this with me on her death bed Super Mario world (SNES)...Thanks for the video. I love my Grandmother for the love she gave me.

My grandmother was the one that got me hooked on gaming. She got me a NES for Christmas when I was three. At the time, I just wanted to play with the ninja turtles I had just gotten too but I soon became hooked. Gaming has been a big part of my life ever since and I have my grandma to thank. I write about games, collect them and make them. My grandma is no longer around and I wish she could see how much that one gift impacted me so much.

I like hearing about this. It brings back memories of my grandma. My Grandma wasn't a gamer, but one year she got all the grandkids a Nintendo. I was too young at the time like 1 or 2 but, I think some of my cousins already had one, so it became my first game system when I was old enough to start playing it. I also had cousins bring game systems to my grandmas house, so I’d experience some game systems for the first time there.

That's exactly what Retro gaming is all about- recapturing those bygone memories. I'm glad you had those times! When I got Game Boy with Tetris back in about 1990, my parents used to hog it- so I go them one to share for Christmas. Pretty much the only game they played regularly.

I Freaking ❤this topic!! My Grandmother was a Gamer as well, wish she had made it to enjoy all the awesome things we have to enjoy in this era of games but sadly she passed away around the beginning of SNES & Genesis era and we didn’t get to enjoy those great systems together. But She absolutely loved the Atari 2600 & the NES. Her Top 5 Atari 2600 games were Bowling, Space Invaders, Pitfall, Atari Pac-Man, and Asteroids & Breakout tie for fifth. And Her Top 5 NES were of course Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, Tetris, 10 Yard Fight, DonkeyKong/DonkeyKong Jr. combo cart., honorable mention Elevator Action.

I like that the intro is still Devil Billy.

It was my sister who would do the moving the controller thing while she played. She would also pause as she was falling into a pit, as if she could delay the inevitable.

This was an awesome video and brought me back to happy moments from my childhood! My parents also played games back in the day. One of my oldest memories is my parents buying Yoshi Island and watching my siblings and I play on Christmas morning.

This is great!! My grandparents bought my brother and I an NES. They knew how bad we wanted one, but we never asked our parents for one because we knew they couldn’t afford it.. I remember my grandpa was so excited to play it with us whenever we came over to their house.. He bought the Jack Nicholas golf game (I think for himself) and would play with us for hours.. I remember going over to spend the night and I caught him playing it without us.. I think he liked it more than we did!!

What a great story! I didn't play any video games with my grandparents, but my Mom always loved playing Monopoly on the NES.

This was a great video idea Billy. Sadly my grandparents weren’t into video games. My brother and I would game on the nes and when he got older he got out of it. I did continue on with my oldest nephew and got him into gaming and he still games to this day.

That is awesome Billy. I use to play the SNES at my grandmothers place. She had it in her room. I don't think she ever played it though. It may have just been there to keep what ever grand kids off the TV in the living room. Beat a lot of games in that room though.
