I stopped by my local Wally World to pickup some things and this little Gem jumped into my basket. I just had to give it a good home.

For my first time with the Instant Pot Gem I chose to roast a 5lb. young chicken with quartered potatoes, carrots, and other vegetables I had leftover.

The chicken came out perfectly moist and tender. After seasoning and searing the skin I placed the roasting rack inside the multi cooker and then a bed of vegetables and placed the bird on top.

I struggled for a moment to get the lid down but I think it’s because my bird was a little large. After about 30 minutes roasting the vegetables had wilted enough and the chicken was no longer touching the glass lid.

I left the bird to roast for about one hour and 15 minutes. After a good rest I carved and served. I only serve two adults each day so most of this bird will be reserved for other dishes in the week. I’ll probably use my Instant Pot pressure cooker to make bone broth from the carcass.

PROS:
- High quality build.
- Easy to use.
- Replaces several countertop appliances.

CONS:
- Only comes in one size - 6 Qt.

FINAL VERDICT: It’s definitely a “go out and buy it now” if you need a multi cooker! This would make a great gift this holiday for someone special (or yourself!). Remember, this is NOT a pressure cooker! This is a great addition to your other Instant Pot appliances but will not replace the utility of your pressure cooker. Thanks for reading and enjoy the video. 😊

EDIT: I bought this product with my own money and this review is not sponsored or endorsed by Instant Pot.

Thanks so much for doing this video. I have been looking for exactly this for about an hour, you saved dinner!

I just got this pot for Christmas, and was disappointed to find it didn't have the pressure cook feature, and was scrambling to find a way to cook this chicken. Thanks again.

Thank you. I bought mine partially due to your review. I got confused when you had 350 degrees at 45 minutes but later saw 400 at 1:15 hr. I jyst read your notes so will go with that on our first cook chicken. Thank you for taking time to do this..

Tippy Top - When you browned the bottom side of the chicken in the beginning, did you also turn it over and do the other side? I didn't see that step in your instructions and sadly, when I made this dish tonight, it wasn't as beautifully browned as your was - but boy howdy, was it ever delicious! Thank you for posting your experience. I made shrimp in this appliance last night and won't be doing anymore pale ale beer with it as it was a bit bitter to my family's liking, but something to play with for sure! Thanks again for posting!

Did you need to add any liquid into pot in order for this to cook properly?

Did you use any liquid? And did your veggies burn to the bottom of the pot?

I am doing a lot of research in which muti pot to buy which can do a stove top and oven mode on top of the slow cook sauteing mode. Cuisinart seems to have some problems, and now choice between Ninja 4 in 1 and this IP GEM. I already have the IP mini duo for everyday use for two.

Have you used the slow cooking option? Just wondering how hot it runs on low and keep warm mode.

You should give all the directions for this recipe not part. Their is no way that the chicken will turn brown on top you must flip it over like you did the bottom. Also say how long it should be cooked I’m praying mine will be done in 1 hour 14 minutes. I see this with a lot of these videos and it s not right. Your giving a recipe like my Mother in-law would give me. She would say after I made it Oh this doesn’t taste like mine!well I guess not you didn’t give me all the ingredients. She always cheated me on her recipes didn’t want me to be a good cook. So I never asked for anymore of her recipe’s. I am a good cook after 44 years of cooking I taught myself. When I give out a recipe I give the whole recipe, time to cook and tempt. So you should do the same.
