Moby 'The Day' Official video featuring Heather Graham

Official video for the first single to be taken from Moby's forthcoming album (and photo book) 'Destroyed'. The video features Heather Graham alongside Moby and was directed by Evan Bernard and eyeball.

Video Producer: Kerri Kleiner
Production Company: Hello And Company

Indirectly inspired by David Bowie and Brian Eno's production circa Low and Heroes (which moby believes is now part of his DNA), the song is one of the few tracks from Destroyed that moby himself sang on. "'The Day' was written in a hotel room in Spain at dawn when I hadn't slept," recounts moby. "I wrote it on an acoustic guitar and recorded it on my phone, brought it home and re-recorded it with the old broken-down electronics I have in my studio."

A deeply personal song about late night desperation and dark-night-of-the-soul disquietude, the video for "The Day" (directed by Evan Bernard) features Moby's friend and actress Heather Graham in the role of a nurse/guardian angel "who gets to slaughter demons," explains moby. "I had this simple idea of Heather as an angel in a hospital. Evan expanded upon it and made it a lot more interesting, a lot more compelling."

The basic plot of the video, according to Heather, is "a woman is lying in a hospital bed and I am the nurse and I give her some oxygen. Then it cuts to me as the angel flying, and then you see this scary demon." The director elaborates: "She (the angel) is the defender of righteousness. She represents good, and she's defeating evil." Climaxing in a metaphysical battle between demon and angel, the video is filled with surreal imagery in an eerie clinical setting.

I try to know when to leave
She sits in the bedroom and grieves
There's a sequence that starts all again
She can't get up anymore with the pain

The combination of these drugs
Has left her hopeless and lost
She wants to count the ways
But she can't count again

I will be right here
Till all the pain
Just disappears

I will always stay
Till all this light
Just kills the day

I strangle my words
Once, I tried a thousand times
Slaughtered like Gods
When the silver shines so hard

I tried to poison my life
Always dreaming on the edge of the knife
She always looked backwards
And I can sit here for even ten minutes or more

I will always stay
Till all this light
Just kills the day

Oh hold on
Oh hold on
Oh hold on
Just try again, again

It is outrageous that the media has forgotten about as bright as an artist Moby. While media attention is given to artists like Lady Gaga and company, a talented artist is left behind. It needs to be revised the concept of what is really an artist.
Congratulations, Moby!

My mother is at the ICU at this moment, and the only thing that is giving me some comfort is this song.  I wish she could hear it.

This video is a masterpiece. Some people are simply gifted with artistic talent, off course there is effort also, but effort + talent breeds this. Moby is one of the greatest of our time.

I was reading an interview where Moby said he wrote this song partly about seeing someone you love struggling in the hospital and also about his friends with addiction problems. I went through both of these issues at the same time and it makes me happy that someone can write a song that so accurately describes what I've gone through.

I've watch my grandparents and parents struggle in the last weeks of their lives. A slow death is not a gift no matter how little pain. What we do for those trapped in that fate is a measure of who we are and where we came from. If it's done right, we give back that which has been give us, and hope our future holds as much compassion as given to those in the present. Great song.

This is the most meaningful yet abstract music video I've ever seen.

I've watched this so many times, and yet... I only just saw that Heather also played the nurse who helped her with pain relief... hence the angel <3

Having just found out, what this song actually means, I see Moby's music in a different light. I must congratulate him for facing the demons within, and thank him, for helping me to face my own.

I will do my best, to follow his example. Allthough, we may have abused different things, I do believe, I now understand him. And... this is stupid. But I think, he might understand things, the same way, as I.

Anyways... Moby. You rock. Thanks, mate.
