Joe Biden's administration just gave China 'the green light' to 'reunify' Taiwan

The Biden administration has faced accusations of double standards online after stating it does not support Taiwan's independence on the same day it announced Ukraine would join NATO.

On Thursday, White House National Security adviser John Kirby said the Biden administration does not support Taiwan's independence.

Kirby's remarks came after a reporter on Thursday asked about President Joe Biden's phone call with President Xi Jinping of China.

"I won't characterise President Xi's comments, but I can tell you that President Biden was very, very clear that nothing's changed about our one China policy," he said.

'We don't support independence for Taiwan, but we also don't wanna see the status quo changed in a unilateral way, and certainly not by force."

On Thursday US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also announced Ukraine would become part of NATO.

Social media users reacted to perceived double standards by the US in supporting democracies.

"Wow. They don’t support Taiwan but support Ukraine joining NATO? Is is because hunter Biden is not doing business with Taiwan?," one X user wrote.

"John Kirby with the direction of the Biden administration abandoned Taiwan and just gave China the green light to 'reunify' Taiwan with the 'mainland'," another user wrote.

"Another country to collapse and get lost under Joe Biden and the Democratic Party."

I'm a little confused.
Isn't Taiwan already a country?
Then why does the US say it doesn't support Taiwan's independence?

Change the policy and tell Xi that Taiwan is already independent. Make it clear!

What could America do to stop China.🇨🇳

The US has agreed with China since the 70s that Taiwan is Chinese. I have no idea why they continue to let the US hinder them in reclaiming what's already theirs.

Good news. We don't have the right to meddle in internal affairs of other nations.

I have been a supporter of the 1 China for many years, but the China I believe in is the ROC (Taiwan) not the Communist Regime of the PRC. I think it long past time that the reunification of the "China's" is possible, the hope of democratising China is long dead. Perhaps it is time for democracies to join forces, and for Taiwan to seek reunification with Japan. For those who remember before WWII - Taiwan was "Formosa" and it was a part of the Japanese Empire. Let the people of Taiwan choose their Future, not the Communists ruling in Beijing!

In ACTUAL reality Taiwan IS independent of what other self-serving entities think while they hope to maintain the shameless flow of Spice/Cheap stuff.

Support Taiwan has never been more important. US and China share the border of the Pacific ocean. Chinese Submarines and aircraft carriers can easily reach to Hawaii Guam Australia. Leave Ukraine to the Europeans. US has been babysitting Europe for too long and starved Taiwan.
