They based this off of popularity mostly. If Doctor Who was more well-known in the U.S. it would have been higher probably.

BSG was pretty good, but Doctor Who is masterpiece and should be number 1.

@Shyanmar I think Alfred Hitchcock was Mystery. Twilght Zone sometimes dealt with scifi but Outer Limits did it more both often had more original concepts than Star Trek which often used plots from old movies such as the teleporter taken from the fly, computer that play chess from around the world under the sea, Charlie X a kid that creats whatever he wants idea was taken from an episode of the outer limits. Turlaine and Q may have been inspired by Mr. Mxyzptlk from comics.

Watching Adama's open invitation to join the mission and scenes again...wow. Battlestar Galactica (TRS) is way underrated, especially the soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary.

@hydrolito story about a boy that creats whatever he wants was called A good Life and was on Twilight Zone not Outer Limits. Kid was played by Will Mumy later to become famous on Lost in Space.

Is this a second Top 5 Sci-Fi TV Shows from IGN? I've seen one another before, and there were definitely other series in it.
Anyway, I'm glad that my favorite Battlestar Galactica is on the first spot in this list. I hope you're glad too.

I suggest guys that you go onto their website and see their complete list.

As with everything, it needs to be experienced within its proper context.

this is actually just a small portion of IGN's top 50 sci fi shows article. to my fellow Lost fans, it was in the top ten, and for stargate fans, all three series were up there. only problem i had with the list was the complete lack of Star Trek Enterprise

Battlestar Galactica absolutely deserves the Top spot, an absolutely incredible show.

I'd love to see Stargate up there, because after watching basically 17 seasons, I love the show. Firefly should have been, as well, without a doubt. Star Trek's impact on Sci-Fi can't be denied, though I've never really gotten into the original shows.

legendary list, its a shame that there are only 5 spots, there are sooo many good sci-fi tv shows out there, in my opinion the best sci-fi show is the one with you grew up, i love sg1 and star trek whats yours?
