"angels dream of one thing, to be human" is deep because its inevitably what all soldiers want, its even what drove Sepheroth insane

Beautiful story written. Crisis Core change Zack from just another soldier guy, ex-boyfriend of Aerith and good friend of Cloud to the legendary hero FF7 world would ever seen.

To those unfamiliar. Soldiers contain Janova cells, implanted into them by Hojo and to a lesser extent Gast. Jenova is an extra terrestrial being that came to this planet to suck the life force out of it. Jenova was killed and her body sealed away until Shinra found the corpse and began using it to reverse engineer it's ability to drain the life force of the planet in order to create fuel for stuff like cars, and electrical devices. As well as make materia. Since the planet made materia naturally mankind thought it was simply a faster method of reproduction. So it allowed for experimentation on soldiers. While Gast knew the Jenova cells were dangerous, Hojo thought they were ultimately a next step in evolution. Because they didn't rely on the planets life stream to create life. So he set out on corrupting the life stream using shinra tech to create monsters as weapons of war, however his underlying dreams were to recreate Jenova, who he had a sick fascination with. All those implanted with Jenova cells seek to reunite the cells to recreate Jenova. The cells eventually become the dominant cells within the body stripping away all cells tied to the life stream. This means those implanted with Jenova cells can never rejoin the life stream when they die. They are no longer part of the planet, they are no longer human. They are considered monsters. The lifestream is basically life after death. Its basically heaven. So not being a part of it, is like being rejected by heaven. So this was basically Angel telling Zack he has given up on a world that will no longer accept him. Which is doubted by a lot of people at this point, including Sepheroth. The reason Sepheroth looses control in FF7 is because he is presented with the undeniable truth that he is born of Jenova cells and no longer a part of the lifestream. It is also the reason he is able to exist outside the lifestream and cross it's barriers, because he (like Jenova) possesses the ability to manipulate the lifestream. So during FF7 Sepheroth only grows stronger the more he succumbs to the Jenova cells. He no longer wants to be a part of the lifestream, but desires to bring everyone out of the planet to exist in an eternal nothingness alongside him. Which is ultimately what the cetra (the ancient race that cared for the lifestream) wanted to prevent Jenova from doing.

Granted in the original Sepheroth thought of himself as a cetra because Hojo and Gasts notes were misleading. However he shows his true villainy when he learns the truth and just accepts it because it's not fair to him and others who suffered what Hojo did.

In the remake we learn more about the Gi tribe, they are another race of people who followed the path of Jenova and created the black materia that would destroy the planet. They show what becomes of those not tied to the planet, how they exist in endless suffering of death. Which is basically how Sepheroth must live. So Angel throws everything away after learning this as well. It's a really bitter ending that hurts to realize, but both sides of this story have there reasons. What is unanimously clear however is that Hojo is a fu*king as*hole and I hope the remake makes his death worth the wait.

I played the og crisis core years ago on the psp. The game left me feeling hollow. Really glad they gave Zack a chance in the remake ❤ Zack represented a legacy left by Angeal and genesis

*"What is it that you're after?"*
*"World domination."*
*"That's not even funny, man."*

His answer feels so real.

An unspoken certainty in this world is there is absolutely no sympathy for monsters. You just go through the world killing them like nothing. That helps me wrap my mind around what Angeal and Sephiroth went through.
