After America invaded Canada in 1812 it spent 200+ years building up a relationship of trust, such that today the Canada/US border is the longest undefended border in the world. Both nations save billions by not having to build and staff 100s of military installations along that border.
Canada exports all it's resources to American factories and refineries every year.
When the EU came asking for Canadian potash and Canadian oil after Russia invaded Ukraine, Canada said, "no thanks, America is a stable customer already, we aren't looking for more".
Then along comes Trump to torpedo that trust. Watch Canada build the rail and pipelines to start exporting to the EU and Asia, because it can't count on America to be a stable partner.
