I know someone that happened to. She left the wedding, filed for an annulment. Never saw him again. A big red flag on the ability to trust in the future.

Same thing happened to me on our wedding day. Husband had also said he wouldn't do that. He did anyway, with much cheering from the audience. Cake went up my nose, down my throat, & down my dress, & I ended up choking on it. I ran to the bathroom, staying there for some time until I managed to get it all out & stopped choking. Not 1 person helped or even came to check on me. Once I went back to the reception, I was greeted by my mom & husband laughing, like it was the funniest thing they had ever seen.
What I didn't know was that right before my husband shoved that cake in my face, he was making faces & quietly giggling behind my back, letting the audience know what he was about to do! Someone caught it on video. I hated that video.

Women spend hours and hundreds to thousands of dollars to look perfect on their wedding day. To ruin it for laughs at her expense is just cruel and disrespectful.
More importantly, he agreed not to do this to OP. If he can't keep a simple promise about not smashing cake...how on earth can she trust he can keep the wedding promises? Enjoy being newly weds...nah. That paper would never get mailed.

That same exact thing happened to my mom she got cake thrown on her so, She also threw cake on Her ex husband also, But She was getting yelled at for doing it and comforting her crying ex husband.
