I would, of course, suggest waiting, if you can. The future could look bright when it comes to CPUs.
If you can't wait, which one would you go for? The i5-9600K or the Ryzen 5 2600? :)

Buy the 2600 and put the extra $100 you save toward upgrading your GPU.

There is no justice in comparing them

You should comparing with r5 2600x

Round the UK, Ryzen 2600 is around £140+
Vs the i5 9600K sitting around... £240+
Yeah, £100 more for less performance in CPU based tasks and then theres the costs for OC based mobos. I wish the K series i5s weren't so poorly priced. The only 9th Gen i5 worth getting for a budget build is the 9400F but that's still around £10-15 more here.
Furthermore, a mid-range card like the GTX 1060, even stretching up to an upper mid-range card like a 1660 Ti or RTX 2060, performance differences are minimal. If the pricing was better, it might've been a solid win. Even the i5 8400 is getting some annoying price increases here.
Now that Ryzen 3000 is around the corner, hoping to get some good CPUs.

Been a strict Intel user for close to 10 years now, but I'm waiting for Zen 2 to see if I'm able to switch. I've always loved the blue team performance, to this day even with AMD throwing all they have at it, they still manage to top it in performance, but as it stands in my country, 400+€ for a processor isn't something I'm willing to pay atm, and I will give AMD a chance.

I love how you give these two parts their fair shake and not just come to a conclusion that should fit everyone, people have different needs and I appreciate that you recognise that. Thank you for the video.

*Neither.*

*RYZEN 3000 is right around the corner.* 😁

As a streamer and content creator I picked the ryzen 5 2600 and put the extra money into getting a 2060 instead of 1660

If you are streaming or using pc for something else beside gaming then ryzen. 9600k is a pure gaming cpu with potential for 3d modeling thx to his single core performance.
Long story short... Choose your cpu based on your needs.

It should've been 2600 vs 9400F or 2700 vs 9600K. Those are priced equally.

Outside of watching Jay, Linus and Paul's content. Once a week or two I always check on your and Jim's channels are covering also. Discussion is good with open perspectives, while there will be those who for some reason lack the maturity and wish to detract from what content providers do. They can feel free to step up and open their own channel. No stories, no excuses. Thank you again Nicolas. :)

*What about the i5-9600k vs r5 2600x and i5-9400f vs r5 2600 too?*

Great video. Came here from recomendations :D
The only thing that bothers me, is not knowing the GPU and RAM used.

Best regards Nicholas

both are good really, but it depends now on your budget, and that's why i ended up with r5 2600 because of that :)

9600k no question. I game way more than I work so I'll take the extra FPS for my 144Hz monitor over saving a few seconds rendering some videos here and there.

I wouldn't say the i5 "dominated" in games. The results were within a few percent of each other.

As a gamer it's Intel, I'll pay more for the extra performance.

6 threads in 2019 sounds iffy. It would be interesting to see a video which measures the impact of running commonly used software on the background while gaming. I'm still on 6600k (4 threads) and just running discord cuts into the FPS by like 3-5% as I'm mostly CPU bound to reach 144hz.

Enjoy the channel.
IMO Pure gaming, Intel
Gaming and streaming, AMD or a threaded Intel
Gaming and other things, AMD
And the price difference, $150 to $170 when cooler and mobo considered. Which could be used to upgrade/improve what you use a PC for.
Money no object, BOTH : )
Can't go wrong with either though.

What do you think of the i5 9400F? It is priced very close to Ryzen 5
