Putin Says Russia Will Deploy Nuclear Weapons to Belarus Next Month

Vladimir Putin says Russia will move some of its nuclear arsenal into neighboring Belarus next month, another provocative escalation in the long-running conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Putin made the announcement in a filmed conversation with Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.

Putin’s decision to deploy nuclear weapons ‘comes as Ukraine has stepped up attacks in several sectors of the front line in what some observers see as the start of its long-expected counteroffensive,’ writes the AP.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a Belarusian activist and outspoken critic of the Putin/Lukashenko regimes, called the gambit ‘nuclear blackmail’ and ‘an attempt to force Europe to back down.’

Sometimes I wonder if Putin remembers that NATO too has nuclear weapons. Either France or the UK _by themselves_ could destroy all the major Russian cities. Any one of the US nuclear missile submarines... well, you know.
Putin seems to think that if he launches a nuclear attack from Belarus, perhaps after a false flag provocation there, that Russia would not pay the price. He is tragically wrong. Russians should do what they need to do to ensure that Putin does not do this. It is summertime and many windows are open.
