How Sarri Could Set Up Juventus Next Season | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics
Показать описание
How Maurizio Sarri could set up his Juventus side next season in terms of starting XI, formation and his tactics! After the departure of Massimiliano Allegri in June, Juve have started their rebuilding processes by bringing in Europa League winning coach, Maurizio Sarri from Chelsea.
Even with Allegri’s side’s pure domestic dominance, winning every league title available with his time at the club - winning the Champions League seems to be the main target for the I bianconeri. Fabio Paratici and the Juventus board have handed the Italian coach the tools for the job - by bringing in Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Matthijs de Ligt, Luca Pellegrini, Gianluigi Buffon and Merih Demiral. With the transfer market still open, Juve could still add Lukaku or Icardi to their already world class attacking line with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa.
After fighting off Manchester United, PSG, Barcelona and most top European sides - Juventus managed to land Matthijs de Ligt. The signing of the Dutchmen from Ajax is certainly a statement going into next season and arguably places them as the favorites in the Champions League. No outfield player in Serie A committed more errors leading directly to goals than Leonardo Bonucci (two) last season, so it makes sense that Juventus have upgraded on the Italian International.
Moving into the full-back positions, even with the signing of Luca Pellegrini from Roma - Sarri will most likely stick to Alex Sandro. The Italian coach usually sets up with one attacking & one defensive full-back - Cancelo will suit the attacking role very well. The 25-year-old completed 2.4 take-ons per game in Serie A last season, more than any other defender in the league - and more than any of his Juve teammates. Same case stands for the Brazlian left-back who even with arguably not his best season at Juve - managed to impress in defensive situations and like Cancelo his numbers reflect his role for the Italian side. Alex Sandro lead Juventus in tackles per game (2.2) last game and would be the perfect player for that more defensive full-back role that Sarri’s sides always have.
Moving into midfield Sarri would be walking into a side with a ready made Regista. Miralem Pjanic takes up deeper positions on the pitch and runs the game - essentially what Jorginho did for Sarri at Napoli. Pjanic usually sees more of the ball than any Juventus player, and last season ranked first for Juve players in: passes into the final third, passes per game, long balls per game and key passes. He would very much be the Jorginho of this side. Aaron Ramsey is another like for like Napoli style option, playing as the advanced midfielder like Marek Hamsik did under. One of the big issues with Sarri’s Chelsea was that the squad lacked somebody capable of playing the ‘Hamsik’ role in Sarri’s midfield to an elite level - but Aaron Ramsey could slot in perfectly here. Ramsey’s stats last season match up well to Hamsik’s 16/17 campaign under Sarri, which was arguably the best season of the mohawked-goalscorers career. Ramsey last season and Hamsik in 16/17 both contributed 1.5 tackles + interceptions per game as well as 0.7 direct goal contributions per game. If Sarri can get a fully fit Aaron Ramsey into his side, that’s another classic Sarriball role filled nicely. As well as the new boys, Sarri will have the likes of Sami Khedira, Emre Can, Blaise Matuidi and Rodrigo Bentancur to call upon to add physicality, thrust or versatility, depending on the situation.
But the attacking lineup is where it gets interesting. Getting the best out of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala will be key to Juventus’ success this season. Sarri has stated in preseason he’s looking to utilise Ronaldo from the left and has suggested Dybala could play through the middle as a false 9. The Italian tactician could also return to his Empoli days, playing a 4-3-1-2 with Dybala behind the two strikers.
How do YOU think Sarri will Setup Juventus? And can he deliver European glory to Juventus?
