Last week, just-drinks was given a tour of Havana Club's San José distillery as part of a five-day trip as guests of the company. Here, Sergio Valdez, Havana Club's export manager provides the commentary:
- Havana Club's San José distillery is situated around 50km southeast of Havana.
- The distillery opened in 2007 to meet demand for the firm's dark aged rums.
- The site is spread across 17 hectares, or the equivalent of 35 football pitches.
- Bottling occurs at the rate of around 12,000 bottles per hour, depending on orders.
- Havana Club still produces its white rums at its Santa Cruz distillery.
