There are concerns about the risks posed by dietary supplements and herbal remedies after a coroner's report revealed the wife of a congressman died last year after ingesting white mulberry leaf, a plant generally considered to be safe. Samantha Young, a senior correspondent for Kaiser Health News and the reporter who broke this story, discusses her report with CBS News' Tanya Rivero and Tony Dokoupil.

Should state "concerns about having to go to the hospital and be financially enslaved for the rest of your life while getting "treatment" but never cured."

That's why we need a functional medicine practitioner to recommend and prescribe supplements! I have done so, but also since the 90's, and as an RN, I have studied herbal and integrative therapy. Functional medicine is extremely expensive. Big pharma has rendered much of these practices to be out of pocket, and demonized. You can't put a patent on natural supplements. However, functional medicine goes deep in testing every aspect, including gene snp's that affect processes, like methylation and other hereditary issues. They the tests are so specialized that most insurance doesn't cover them. But, the tests, along with technology specific computer programs, the underlying conditions for diseases are addressed and work!!

the best way to lose weight and get to a healthy weight is to have your intake and outtake to be as close to equal as possible. your body burns roughly 1500 to 2000 calories just to live. you can eat 10k calories but you had better be working off 8k of them.

I'm have Kaiser insurance. I had 3 CAC scans paid for myself outside of Kaiser in two year intervals. I didn't think I needed a statin but the CAC score was 107. So I took a statin for two years. The plaque in my arteries increased 85%! I stopped the statin and took Vitamin K2, D3, and magnesium with no other changes. In two more years the plaque decreased 18%. At least it's going in the right direction now. I mean what is the statin supposed to do anyway? Not increase the plaque in your arteries. Maybe it was just my body. My cholesterol was still high so I took 1 tablespoon of sunflower lecithin powder at breakfast for 4 months and my cholesterol decreased 30 points. Kaiser: You had better realize that some supplements are better at healing the body than the prescription medications. I get all the vaccines but I avoid the prescription medications.
