The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) conducts a replenishment-at-sea with the Henry J. Kaiser-class fleet replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198).

USNS Big Horn (T-AO-198), a fleet replenishment oiler, conducts a double underway replenishment as part of an alongside connected replenishment (CONREP), April 14, 2016. The CONREP was conducted to replenish fuel for the USS Whidbey Island (LSD-41) and USS WASP (LHD-1).

A replenishment oiler or replenishment tanker is a naval auxiliary ship with fuel tanks and dry cargo holds and operated by the U.S. Military Sealift Command to provide underway replenishment of fuel to combat ships and jet fuel for aircraft aboard aircraft carriers and essential dry goods so as to remain deployed and stay in the fight!

Men who serve aboard a ship like this may think they are not important in the big picture of the fleet. If anything happens to any ship they are critical for food. Health supplies. Medical supplies for injuries. Parts needed. There is more chance of ships coming back from war with their support in place.
