Rode a DBD Goldie with the 1-1/2 GP carb for daily transport with no issues starting!! Correct settings of ignion -tickling carb -use of de-compression lever would get easy relieable starts. Ya want a fussy starter try a Vello !

John Birchall, our Goldie club chairman and dad to Ben and Tom Birchall, world champion sidecar racers. IMO Goldies are the best bikes ever designed and that sound, music to my ears but only if it has the twitter

I had an early 60's 250cc BSA. First time start of the day was fairly simple. Ride for a while, shut it off and then try to start it again and it was impossible. Darn thing always flooded out. A BSA owner finally showed me the "tickle valve" on the bottom of the carburetor that drained it a bit. That would stop the flooding and it was a lot easier to start after that. Eventually I would always shut off the gas every time after I rode it. Liked the bike, just the right size for around town and country roads.

Guys are you planning on putting together a complete DVD boxset (or downloadable package) for World's Greatest Motorcycle Rides? I LOVE the Motorbike Show and long may it continue but if WGMR is no more then it truly deserves no less! Watching Henry ride into the Big Apple on his crazy Saxon chopper settled my fate on two wheels.
