Too many people forget that even with all the racism and denigration, the internment of their families ( American Nisei), many Americans of color still stood up to be counted and fight for the dream that has been America. While there are those that seek to return to this type of inequality, the poignant words " over my dead body" is as true now as it was then. Fantastic portrayal by Ms. Washington and I do hope she is recognized for the depth of her performance....Brava!!

IMHO, one of the most powerful scenes in cinema history. Kelly's performance was so real that you could feel the struggle and torment these women went through. I was very emotional during the movie, especially during this particular scene. I wish the world was a better place where no matter one’s racial background, everyone is treated equally and valued as human beings.

After 400 years, and starting to understand what our ancestors had to endure “ Over My Dead Body “ will be a calling cry, we will never be truly respected, some other measures are needed. When peace and complying doesn’t work, conflict all that’s left.

I get chills every time I see this scene! While it was impossible to respect such a Man, she maintained her dignity and respected the rank. 🥰

A powerful portrayal of a thorny topic. I even found myself moved to agree with her attitude. I don't know about the US forces but in the British forces she could not have been charged with insubordination as she continued to call him sir. It has to be said though that in cases like this when we say "with all due respect sir" it means they have already lost our respect.
